Tuggers: We are staying two weeks in the Marriott Residence Inn in Carlsbad, CA because of a kitchen flood situation (we live in Carlsbad) -- but I wanted to report what it is like here.

The unit is large, has 'L' shaped room which has living room stuff, sofabed, plus office set-up and huge and VERY comfortable super King-sized bed. Bath has separate room for tub/shower and toilet plus the vanity area. Kitchen is small but has large microwave, two burner stove, dishwasher :whoopie: , complete dish set-up and daily maid service. This is about 10 minutes from Legoland and lots of families are staying here. There is free computer hook-up in room or two free ones to use in lobby area.

Here is the real good news: Expanded free breakfast which includes eggs, bacon or sausage, cereal, bagels, sweet rolls, fruit, juices, coffee and some days French toast. From 6pm-7:30pm they have wine, soda AND things like macaroni and cheese -- again free. There is free parking.

Don't know what they are charging as our AAA insurance put us up here; but we are very impressed with the Marriott Residence Inn now. If you have questions, I don't mind answering.

We always try to stay at a Marriott Residence Inn while travelling or while doing house renovations. With 3 kids, we like to have our own sleeping spaces. The 2 bedrooms give us that. You'll find Residence Inn's in most major cities. For our Med cruise next year, we'll be staying in a Residence Inn in Barcelona.

It's nice to know that after your flood incident you're enjoying your stay at Residence Inn, which is my favorite hotel when I am not in a TS.

As a foreign, I have a question: Why is Carlsbad a popular location in California?

It's on the beach!

Idanna: For families there is Legoland; Carlsbad is on the ocean with waves for surfers; has a small town atmosphere; fairly easy drive to Disneyland and San Diego parks like SeaWorld and the Zoo. Any specific questions?

Legoland:) ! Also SeaWorld, SD Zoo and Disneyland (last time there Disneyland was 30yo)! Very interesting. As long as I have 2 kids, Carlsbad should be a good destination, specially because it's in the middle of 2 large centers with lots of fun for the small ones.

Any good resort in the area? I think Newport Coast should be near there.

Idanno: Carlsbad has at least four timeshares -- one being Four Seasons, then there is Grand Pacific and Hilton -- Carlsbad Inn, Tamarack Beach Resort, Seapointe. Marriott Newport Coast is very nice and about 45 minutes away.

thanks! we are going to add tthree days to our NCV trip next year. We will go there.

FREE Things keep getting better. Last evening the hotel served hamburgers, hot dogs with all the trimmings; potato or green salad; beverages incl wine; fruit. I don't see how they can afford to do this -- the hotel is FULL.

They also have three free newspapers -- San Diego Tribune, USA Today and one other. Gee, I sound like a Marriott employee, but I'm not -- just trying to make a positive thing out of our displaced victim situation :)

Update3: Apparently weekends (FriSatSun) the evening stuff doesn't happen but the breakfasts are still expansive.

We stayed there as well and thought it a very well run property. I am also partial to the property in Hershey, PA.
