I own Sea View Atlantic City (gold) that I intend to dump. I will be making a purchase at Newport Coast (very simular MF's) on the resale market.

The Atlantic City week allows me to convert to reward points every other year (75K). But I have never taken the oportunity to do so.

Is there a way to obtain the ability to convert the resale week (float) to reward points, from time to time, should I desire to do so?

There have been some reports here that some people HAVE been able to trade their resales for point...but I personally wouldn't count on it.

Another question to ask yourself honestly is whether you will really miss those points.....
I wouldn't because I just can't see giving up a 2BR villa use or a 2BR villa deposit plus a bonus week from II or SFX for 100,000 Marriott Reward Points.....not even enough for the a 7 day Cat 5 stay in a hotel room.

FYI - Unfortunately, Marriott will NOT allow an equity upgrade with a Gold Fairway Villas...they do not have enough demand for it.
I actually reconfirmed this today with my Marriott Salesperson as I am a "Gold" owner, too.
There are a few properties and seasons they will not take back - this is one of them.

IMO converting anything less than platinum into points is not a good deal as you get less points for almost the same MF charges. It would appear that Marriott won't exercise their ROFR on this resort for a gold week, which might mean your best option for fast results might be Ebay, but be prepared to take a huge loss. I'm not aware of any resales that come with the points option unless you purchase the resale from Marriott.

I think the enjoyment and real value of points comes after the kids have left the nest and it becomes time for the parents to see the world rather than feeling cooped up in a 2 bdrm timeshare where half of the space is wasted...and when it's really nice not to have to make your beds and get turn-down service, to phone for breakfast room service, to be entertained in the hotel bar and restaurants, or to walk out the door onto Via Veneto, Champs Elysses, Westminster Bridge, etc. Realized dreams from Marriott Reward points in first class hotels that charge as much as $600 a night -- and if you get Marriott air/hotel point packages you get the air too!

Still, you have to look at how many points you get for how many dollars to assess the value -- and in most cases platinum is the only type where it's workable. At Manor Club you get 110k pts for $607 MF (plus fee) which would take you 55 hotel stays at $200 a night to earn. However, the same number of points from trading in BeachPlace costs you almost $1000 so it becomes far less attractive an option.

I am not sure what you paid for your gold week but you might want to hold on to it for a couple of reasons.
1. Gold weeks are being sold by the developler for around 11,000. If you sell that week you should expect to get around 6,600 if you are lucky. I have seen gold weeks as low as 5,000.00.
2.If you have way to acquire marriott reward points getting 75,000 point for around $800.00 is not bad if you have other ways to aquire points. As Brain points out it is not the best way but it is not bad. I would not advise anyone to buy here for point but you already own.
3. Your gold week might actually increase in value if AC continues to turn around.
4. If you buy a resale at Newport you will be able to reserve your week in the 13 month window.
5. Fairway is now giving owner who bought addtional discount on stays not given other marriott owners.
The bottom line is that at this point the week might be worth more to you than to sell it for a lost.

I agree with pwrshift. While our kids were young we made good use of our timeshares and the extra room that theh gave us. Now that they are gronw and on their own we love the points option and have had some wonderful trips and stayed in some wonderful Marriott hotels including several Ritz Carlton properties. Remember you won't always need all that space and trading your timeshares for timeshares in another country is always a big chance. THeir idea of a first rate property is not our idea of a first rate property. In addition there a not a lot of time shares within large cities so if you want to travel and sightsee you need those Marriott points.
