Dear Group:

I currently own a Marriott Vacation Club (Florida Club)timeshare. I own in Grand Vista but exchanged this year through Interval to go to MBP. We would like to return to the Florida Atlantic coast next January but want to try and stay 4 weeks. Could I extend my stay by buying points? Is that smart? Would that work? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Unless you are committed to stay 4 weeks a year every year for the next 10 years. It’s like buying a house. If just for next year, I suggest just rent.

But with a small points account, you might be able to rent points and get more flexibility. There are experts here in club points and they can help you. Just don’t buy retails it’s a rip off.

If your Grand Vista is enrolled in Abound, formerly called the Destinations Club, you can rent club points and then use them to book via Abound. Once they've been transferred to you, you have to use them that usage year.
An alternative would be to lock off your Grand Vista, if you own one that can lock-off and then exchange each side for where you want, and then set alerts on the II app for additional weeks.
You can also look on redweek and other sites for weeks to rent from another owner.

I assume you don't actually mean "buying points" but rather renting them through a listing service like vacationpointexchange? As @Hindsite pointed out, that only works if your week is enrolled (or if you own points).

If so (and in general) it's a reasonable option. But I have no idea what Abound Points availability looks like at Marriott's BeachPlace Towers (assuming that's what MBP means) other than that the resort restricted stays shorter than 7 nights Jan-Apr in 2024.

You likely can rent additional points anytime you want (assuming you can convert your week for abound points) at the website below.

www.vacationpointexchange.com

Please note: If you purchased your Grande Vista week prior to June of 2010 then you should be able to get this week into the point system.

Best of luck!
