Marriott Points Inventory - 13 month window question

Hello - wondering if anyone can help me understand what just happened to us. Summary - we have club points we want to use in December 2025 (week 52 time frame). 12 month booking window opens tomorrow 12/27 at 9am. 13 month window has been open for the past month with no availability at any of the resorts we are interested in (Hawaii). I have been checking for a month, nothing available, checking every day. There is a 20% fee to use the 13 month window at our basic level. Here is where it gets curious. Suddenly this afternoon around 2pm, less than one day before the 12 month booking window opens tomorrow, inventory is released into all of the resorts for the week. We grab a week, all good. But still with the 20% 13 month window fee. Basically I am wondering - where was all this inventory for the past 29 1/2 days? Why are they releasing it 1/2 day before the 12 month booking window. In my mind it means there is a 12 month booking window and a 12 month + 1/2 day booking window - pay 20% extra for that 1/2 day. Frustrated, but could anyone tell me if I am wrong or misunderstanding? Seems strange Thank you.

ThHey don't release all the inventory at 13 months. Usually limited to only 50%. It has been noted here that inventory often releases several hours early the day prior to "official release".

If your desired resy is still available at midnight tonight (or tomorrow, if you don’t want to stay up so late), you can always place new resy on hold, cancel old resy, and rebook the held ressy to get back your 20% points (likely in a holding account, but can be used for something down the road).

Thank you. The 12 month booking window prices will activate at midnight? Eastern time? That's good to know. I wonder if I can place the new reservation on hold even if I don't have enough points to back it up. The points will still be tied up with the old one...

Oftentimes things trigger at midnight vs 9am in the points world, so it’s worth a try. You can tell if it’s asking for the 20% premium or not with a quick look.

As for the, can I put it on hold without having points, I just tested it with a 14 night Hawaii resy in Dec 2025 that I do not have enough points for (not enough 2025 points and 2026 available to borrow) and it let me put the ressy on hold.

Thanks, I’ll try. But this is the message I got when I I tried to hold a reservation without enough points.

There is availability at the resort for the day you selected. However, you may not have the number of Points in your account to complete the reservation for this usage year. Please try these additional options: Revisit your points balance to view available points. Check eligibility to bank your points into your desired use year. If you are an owner of weeks enrolled with Abound by Marriott Vacations, you may be eligible to elect to receive Club Points for your current year or future year usage week(s). If the issue remains unresolved, contact Owner Services.

So, when I previously tried, it showed me all availability, for the stuff I had the points for, and the stuff I didn’t have enough for. It allowed me to place a resy for 10K+ points on Hold (which I don’t have the points for). Now, like you, I get the you don’t have enough points message if only availability exceeds my points, and for dates I have enough for some resys (studio as example) it shows me those but not the bigger ones. Friggin glitchy system. Seems like a crap shoot, what it will allow and not allow, from one sign-in to the next.

In any event, pretty sure an Ownership Advisor would able to handle it for you, assuming availability of your desired resy at the time you call.

Many of the Hawai’i properties are Vistana properties which are never available earlier than 12 months. You will never find a Westin or Sheraton property at 13 months.

December 26 2025 is a Friday, 12/27 is a Saturday. Are you sure the 12 month window didn't open on 12/26/24? Did you use the tool in the owner website?

Yea I did, called Marriott today. Basically it seems they release 13 month inventory the day before 12 month window opens up. So I did get the unit at 13 months and in fact nothing was available today when the 12 month window opened up so I am glad I checked when I did. But the inventory drop is pretty random in my opinion and I really worked for it refreshing my screen for a week :) I checked in the parking lot on my phone on my way into a movie and bang units were there for a minute and I grabbed one.
