I am wondering what are the pros and cons of Oceana Palms vs Ocean Pointe? How do they compare to each other and specifically for the oceanfront units?

I've got a video for that.

As for Oceanfront units. You are going to get guaranteed great oceanfront views at Oceana Palms. All villas are above the 7th floor, So no nasty palm trees to get in the way. Ocean Point is only 7 floors (Kingfish is 5) and up through the third or fourth you may get a strategically placed palm tree that was put there just to mess with your view. Another thing about Oceanfront at Ocean Pointe. Half of the 2BR OF units are in Kingfish. This may or may not be important. Also, many of those in Kingfish also fact the inlet vs actually facing out to the water. Some people like that so they can see the Richie Riches go in and out with their yachts.

Personally I prefer Ocean Pointe; because I like the larger resort footprint with multiple pools and the extra amenities like putt putt and a water playground.

At Oceana Palms it’s a high rise and the pool spends a lot of the afternoon in the shade.

From Ocean Pointe you can walk to the marina and restaurants whicih is a plus. Leave the car behind and walk through the smaller streets to the Sailfish Marina. The activities center is busy all day with activities for adults and kids including exercise classes and trivia games. It's our favorite place to go.

The video does a good job explaining and showing the differences.

Ocean Pointe: more of a resort feel, larger foot print, more/larger pools, tiki bar with better seating and menu, low rise buildings with tress that block the ocean for most units, unless you’re in an ocean front unit your pretty much guaranteed a parking lot view, small balcony’s. A better choice for families with children or people who want a big resort feel and enjoy laying out by the pool.

Oceana Palms: more of a boutique feel, smaller resort foot print with two high rise buildings, units start on the 7th floor so no views obstructed by trees, smaller pool, pool deck is nearly always in the shade, no lock offs/only 2 bedroom units, some of the largest balcony’s at any Marriott resort, high rise/narrow parking garage. Better for people who don’t need/want the big resort feel or want to lay out by the pool.

Great video comparison. I haven’t been to either but it appears Palms would suit us better. I spend all my time in the ocean and very little time in resort pools.

IMO....The beach is nicer at Oceana Palms and the Resort has free loungers on the beach so you only have to rent a beach umbrella...and the 2BR 2BA Villas at Oceana Palms are more upscale....We stayed at Oceana Palms last month and really enjoyed our stay.

Free chairs on the beach at Palms too. Have to pay to rent them at Pointe if you don't have your own.

Edited....yeah, what @gln60 said. :)

I was told that Oceana Palms added a sun deck to the back of the property to provide more lounge area in the sun. Has anyone been there since this area was added?

They did. I have seen photos from above on Facebook groups. We will be back there in a few weeks to check it out in person.

The Oceana Palms ocean views used to be pretty good prior to the construction of the Amrit Building next door. One of the reasons was that your actual views didn't start until you were on the 9th floor (or so) and you never had issues with landscaping blocking views.

Of course things all changed with the construction of the Amrit Building on the south side of the Oceana Palms lot line. The Amrit Building is "massive" and creates a lot of mass and shadows on the Oceana Palms property.

With that said, if you obtain an ocean view Villa then I would request a north side placement. Granted, you won't have a lot of direct sunlight, but you will have some nice ocean and beach views.

For those unfamiliar, Oceana Palms parking is on the lower floors of the buildings, and the actual Villas start on the upper floors of the building. The villas are actually quiet and very nice.

Even though we are going with kids age 8 and 12, I decided to book an oceanfront unit at Oceana Palms. It was a hard decision because they both sound great. The deciding factors were that the oceanfront views are better at Oceana Palms and the balcony is big. We are going in July. With as hot as Florida is in the summers, I think less sunlight over the pool would be a positive. I also can‘t sit in the sun due to skin cancer.

We were at Oceana Palms in September..We loved the new sun deck..there were plenty of new loungers and some had umbrellas and small tables…we used them occasionally as there was not always sun on the deck..most of our sun time was spent on the beautiful beach…we had a wonderful corner villa facing south west in the Sunset Tower.
