Hello fellow tuggers,

I am in need of some Marriott advice. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2 br / 2 bath at Marriott Ocean Watch Villas at Grand Dunes in Myrtle beach, SC via a resale. (Personal, not developer-Learned that lesson a while back.) The weeks are not optimal. 5-8, 37-48. Now, I've been "told" that because it is a Marriott and II has a priority view for trading from Marriotts into other Marriotts that the weeks you own are not that important as it relates to trading as with any Marriott you will see priority view of other marriotts. The price for this resale is very low. I guess what i am asking is will this resort with these weeks trade very well with other marriotts at other more desirable times of the year?? Any help, experience etc before i make this purchase would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chris

I believe this is a Silver season. It is easy to trade into (low demand), not sure if it is easy to trade out of. Marriott to Marriott is a priority, but so is Platinum to Platinum. Silver to Platinum... not so much. There is a reason the up front costs are low. I've seen these on eBay, with no minimum, go without a bid.

Please re-consider your purchase. What I have heard you say is the following:

1. The week is not optimal.
2. Trading Power for this purchase is questionable
3. Your considering this purchase because of its low entry cost
4. You are most interested in trading for other higher quality marriotts in better seasons.

I would caution by saying "Buy only where you want to go". Trading and exchanging can be done successfully but is not without its own risks, downsides, and learning curve.

You can also rent it out when you can't use the unit but thats work too.

You will not be able to join the DC club with this purchase. As such, if your not really committed to going there every year or so during your purchased season, then consider what you are signing up for.

I'm sure others on the board will give you advise as well.

Best of luck in your purchase consideration.

THere are no guarantees that you will ever be able to trade up to a better season either at Ocean Watch or anywhere else. It's all a roll of the dice. Yes you do get a advantage because you are trading Marriott to Marriott but there are also a lot of other Marriott owners with better seasons that are probably in front of you.

If trading up and out to other Marriott's using a silver week was all that easy then why would anyone purchase a gold or platinum week to start with? Not saying it cannot be done but easy???? No.
