Heading to Ko Olina in October 5 adults need recommendations on the following

airport transportation
Luau
sunset dinner cruise
supermarkets
restaurants

Thank you in advance for your recommendations

With five adults, I'd rent a car, but I always rent a car ;)

The resort has a great Luau at the resort every Tuesday.

There are many supermarkets in the next town including a Costco, safeway and a walmart.

Restaurants The is a nice restaurant at the resort - Longhi There is a good restaurant at the golf course -Roys Also there are a few restaurants at the Four Season hotel which have great views.

Ko Olina isn't near all that much other than what is right up the beach towards Disney. The area with Costco is where you want to get everything you need. If you are just going to be at the resort then a car would be optional once you get the groceries, but if you want to see anything else, you will want a rental car. Just remember that you are a long way from Waikiki Beach, the North Shore, Pearl Harbor, and Diamond Head. If you haven't been to Oahu, you may be surprised with the traffic and interstate highways.

Also a Mexican restaurant and Monkeypods in shopping center across from Aulani and Four Seasons. There is also an ABC store that sells great burgers and plate lunches.

You can also rent a car for a day at Marriott KoOlina if you would prefer not to have a car for the whole time. It is enterprise or national rent a car IIRC.

If you prefer not to rent a car from the airport, consider booking a private transfer that will accommodate your party. These can be done in advance and will be big enough for 5 people and your luggage and will save you money over taking Speedi shuttle, as they charge per person.

There is a good luau on the resort property every Tuesday evening, Fia Fia, and it includes fire knife dancing. It is one of the top rated luaus in Hawaii. There is another luau at Paradise Cove, at the other end of the Ko'Olina property.

There are several sunset cruises and from our past experience, none were really memorable. They usually leave from Waianae, but some may sail from the Ko'Olina marina. There are probably better options from Honolulu.

There are a number of options for groceries in Kapolei, about a 20 minute drive. Some will allow you to order and they will deliver to the resort. There is a Costco, Safeway, Foodland, as well as Wal-Mart and Target. There is an Island Market, owned by ABC, in Ko'Olina Station and it has some groceries, as well as prepared foods.

There are two restaurants on the Marriott property. Longboard's is a casual restaurant with generous portions, that is great for lunches, drinks, and limited dinner options. They usually have an entertainer in the evening, so you can enjoy a bit of music while you dine. They also have a takeout window, if you prefer to eat in the villa. There is also Longhi's, an independently owned restaurant that opens for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you make an advance reservation and ask for a table in front, you can enjoy the sunset while you dine. There is a marketplace on the property that has a few grocery items, but it sells Starbucks coffees, breakfast pastries, etc., as well as some premade salads, sandwiches, etc.

Our favorite restaurant is Roy's, over at the golf club. It is great for sushi and the freshest seafood. We love to eat out on the patio overlooking the ponds with the swans. The Four Season's and Disney's Aulani have several other good restaurant options. At Ko'Olina station, Monkeypod is a favorite, but there is a Mexican restaurant, Eggs n'Things, etc.

Roy's, Monkeypod, and Mina's at the Four Seasons have the best Happy Hours and they will take advance reservations. Monkeypod has the best Mai Tai's.

After 20 years or so, the new monorail system on Oahu is finally opening on Friday, June 30th, 2023. The entire system will not be operating but a portion of it will be starting Friday.

Its final termination will be at Kapolei and should provide much needed relief on the overcrowded roads. Another option to car rentals will now be available for getting around.

Maybe someone knows more details and can post updates here.

It really has been "only" 16 years.

The section that starts June 30 is running between Kapolei by UH West Oahu and ends at the Stadium.

The fault in the system (among many)is there was not enough money. Also the parking structures were not built, at this time, to save money. Where does the city expect everyone that rides to park?

Not as many people are going to be riding from Kapolei to the Stadium site instead of the full route. Rail is only about half completed.

The luau at the resort is fantastic! Small, more intimate than the huge ones and the main guy who “narrates” the luau is downright funny and charming. Food was great too. Only complaint was…… come on Marriott, make better drinks!
