Which buildings have the most recent upgrades?
I'm pretty sure they were all done this last fall and winter.Could anyone tell me which buildings at Marriott Grande Ocean have had the villas refurbished, or updated?
Yes and no. MGO was sold as OF & OS. Of the 10 buildings 2 are OF only, 2 are a combination and the other 6 only OS. The TUG review page has the property map https://tug2.com/resorts/resort/Marriott-Grande-Ocean?rid=14024&page=image-gallery Some views are better than others and there are many units you cannot see the ocean enough to matter if at all. If you look on Marriott.com the options either do not list a view or list as Courtyard view.Do all buildings have ocean view ?
Thank you so much ! Very helpful !The recent renovation of both sides of Grande Ocean Resort (buildings are arranged in a set of two adjacent "U's" that open toward the ocean)
can be said to have been completed about the same time, as the whole process only took a few months.
Specifically, the North side was completed first, and the South side was completed around May.
FYI, all units at GO are great, and there are no "bad" units there. All units are at least on the second level, as there are no ground-level units
because that is the parking deck location for each building.
As for Grande Ocean "views", it's a little different from typical oceanfront resorts, just as Hilton Head Island in general is different
from most beach destinations.
At GO, the deeds have always defined the two view categories as Oceanfront and Oceanside...
Important: note that NEITHER specifically refers to any type of view, but only to LOCATION relative to the ocean.
In the past 4-5 years, GO has changed the descriptions (especially on reservation confirmations and Interval International
certificates) to "Close to the Beach" and "Courtyard View" to reinforce that concept (ie, that "view" is not what GO is all about).
Many Oceanfront ("Close to Beach") villas don't have a direct ocean view, while an occasional Oceanside villa might have a direct view
(especially the high floors in the back buildings). The 4 Oceanfront buildings do contain a high percentage of direct ocean views,
but "somebody" each week must stay in the few first floor villas, which may or may not be blocked by trees.
These view descriptions were changed mainly to discourage disappointment as to a certain view expectation prior to arrival,
and to more accurately describe what the villas are all about at GO.....that is, "being there" as opposed to a guaranteed view type.
So, with the new descriptions, they can now rightfully say that they guarantee a Courtyard View or a Close to the Beach view.
All of Hilton Head, however, is not REALLY about the ocean, but more about the beautiful foliage of the Carolina Low Country.
For example you cannot ride along any road and view the ocean as you can in Florida or in other states.
HH has no "Ocean Drive".
Roads lead perpendicularly to the ocean, and they dead-end usually at a resort or a residence, and the foliage is abundant,
and you typically cannot see the ocean unless you walk there via a path or a boardwalk. And the foliage is protected from pruning or removing anything without permission. The codes are strict, and no resort can "do what they want" regarding owner/guest requests or complaints.
So don't worry about a view of the ocean----you may see it or you may not. But rest assured it has always been there and it's still there.
As a trader-in, it's highly unlikely you'll receive a villa assignment that gives an ocean view, perhaps even when you use
the higher-level DC Point requirement for an Oceanfront villa. But you WILL be closer to the beach, only a few dozen steps away.
These aerial views might give a better perspective.
You can ZOOM in & out, even click on the small GLOBE at bottom right and select 3D
and do "all-around" views of the resorts, etc.
