Marriott Deposit refund timeline after contract was rescinded

I signed up for 1500 points while on vacation in Koolina Oahu. Did my research, found this website, and realized I made a crappy deal (despite the 2000 bonus points). The high annual maintenance fees just didn't sit right with me, among other things I only discovered after the fact.

Anyway, I sent the rescission letter 4 days after signing my contract (within the 10 day window). I sent it both via email and snail mail. I got an email reply same day stating "We are in receipt of your cancellation notice. We are forwarding to the sales team for processing."

Is that all there is to it? I charged the $1914 deposit to my credit card, which I opened during the sales process because it actually is a good card (Marriott Bonvoy Bevy AMEX).

It's been 12 days and I am still waiting for the refund to appear. The contract stated it would be refunded within 15 business days. I'm curious what others' experience was with the cancellation and refund process.

Relax! Congratulations on finding this website and cancelling on time. Marriott is typically good about refunding the money. I recommend looking at your credit card dispute rules and opening a dispute if you are getting close to the limit (typically 60 days).
BTW, how much was the full cost?

Be patient and allow up to 45 days......

Smart move to rescind.

Full cost including closing was $19,138 for 6 beneficial interests. I was told it was a discounted offer for Japan residents due to the weak yen/usd exchange rate. Can't remember what the actual percent discount was. I'm a Japan resident so I qualified. The discounted rate would be good for two years should I choose to purchase more for $14.16 per point or $3,540 per beneficial interest.

And edit to my original post. It wasn't 2k, but 3k bonus "Vacation Club PlusPoints" they threw in to sweeten the deal. Also part of the offer for Japan residents, but probably horsesh*t. The money guy they brought in to close the deal was very slimey.

They also conveniently threw in a free 3 night stay in Vegas, where I'd need to sit in on another presentation. I told them I have no interest in going to Vegas but they booked it anyway in case I changed my mind. Can't cancel it online so just not going to show up.

I wouldn't just not show up and not cancel, or they might charge you for the stay. I would either call owner services or the number on the paperwork, or at a minimum email and/or mail (certified show you get a receipt)a cancellation.
Technically if you book an encore presentation (reduced or free night stay contingent upon a presentation) and don't bother to go to the presentation during your stay you'll be charged $$. I don't know what the language is if you book and don't show up for the reservation, but I wouldn't take the chance.

The events coordinator called me and I told him I had cancelled my contract, and to please cancel the Vegas booking too. Not sure why it's still showing on my account. The reservation isn't until March so I'll contact them if it isn't removed within the next couple months or so.

Also an update on my refund progress - I emailed again and the response was "Please allow us some time to process your request, as it involves coordination across multiple departments."

The contract stated I would be refunded within 15 business days after confirmation of my cancellation letter, which is 3 days from now.

Did you sign anything regarding the Vegas trip? That sounds like and Encore/Preview and it would have contractual terms, including the rescission period.

Nope! Nothing in my contract about the Vegas trip. It was a verbal thing that I said yeah whatever to, and told the sales person I probably couldn't go anyway. They there would be no penalty if I never checked in.

And to close out the post - I finally received my refund on exactly the 15th business day after my cancellation notice. Glad to be done with all that nonsense. Cost me 2 days of stress on what was supposed to be my stress-free vacation. Lesson learned. And shame on the time-share sales practice of pressuring people into believing the offer is only valid during the sales presentation. It's very problematic. Especially after you've had a mai-tai or three.
