We will be staying at Canyon Villas with our 3 grandsons, ages 12, 11, and 9. Is there a particular building that we should ask for that would have views for us and fits the activities for our grandsons? Any building location suggestions would be helpful. I've read that the hotel pools, lazy river and slide are available for Villa use also. Are there very many activities the resort/hotel hosts. From our readings, we are planning on doing a day in Sedona with the Pink Jeep tours and a one day drive to the Grand Canyon. We have 8 nights here, so the remaining time will be at the resort and closer by places. Has only done things in the general area of Phoenix/Scottsdale, etc. that may have fun things or places for boys this age.
Also, besides the hotel restaurants, are there any good restaurants that you could drive to without fighting a lot of traffic? Or any restaurants that would be a must do?

How fun for you! I would think a building near the pool and sports area maybe 2600. Lots of restaurants at Desert Ridge Marketplace and High Street that the kids would like plus there is a Dave and Busters there, check that out if youre not familiar with them, plus the villa shuttle with take you there. Also we like White Chocolate for a little nicer restaurant with a great menu. The restaurants at the JW are kid friendly our littles even go to Roy's and the oldest is 5. I have heard that the Musical Instrument Museum is a must. Lot's of activities for the kids at the timeshare and others not too far away in Phoenix. I am sure the concierge would have great ideas. We own there and go at least 3 times a year trying to take our grandchildren whenever possible. They love the Cholla Courtyard.

The close by Marriott Facility is very convenient. It may not be open to you on the weekends. I would combine the two trips to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Possibly stay the first day near the rim of the Canyon. If you left early you could be there by noon and have the next afternoon available Otherwise the two trips would be about 12 or 13 hours of driving By combining you could have about 8-9 hours of driving For activities I would highly recommend a visit to the Music museum. Fabulous for all ages and probably by far the best designed museum we have ever been to.There are many small time activities at the resort for families . Some people go to most all of them . Others none. We enjoyed the two we went to. The traffic is not bad in the North area. We cannot recommend restaurants for those with kids as those we go to are not set up for kids to enjoy. There are lots to choose from and you should have no problem. The building best for you would be closest to the clubhouse and some rooms have open golf course views.

The grills and fire pit and Canyon Villas are great. Best meal we have had was hitting farmers market or alberson and grilling. My grandsons think that food they see being cooked is the best (and it saves a ton of time and money). Grab some marshmellows and roast on the firepit to end the meal.

BTW, on Monday nights they have a cowboy singer at the firepit and you can buy a cowboy dinner (corn on the cob, BBQ beef, chips, etc.) at a reasonable price. He only sings cowboy songs and loves requests. He is always entertaining for all ages. He has been doing that for well over 10 years.

Marriott Canyon Villas sponsors a couple of hikes to Pinnacle peak (nearby) during the cooler months. It is a decent hike in terms of beautiful views, well groomed trails and being a good aerobic workout. But the beginning of the hike has some vertical rise so it may not be for everyone. It isn't a loop so you turn around when you get to the end or turn around when you get tired.

When you check in at CV, ask for JW pool keys for the lazy river.

We have stayed at canyon villas three times and love the resort. It is smaller than some of the others so I feel they offer some better activities because of that. They usually offer a weekly hike as an activity-no additional charge. Also on Monday mornings they have a informative meeting of difWe have done trips to Sedona and Grand Canyon as well. It is four hour drive one way to Grand Canyon so I agree with the post that suggests an overnight stay up there. On one of our trips we stayed four days in Sedona and did our Grand Canyon visit from there. Enjoy your Arizona trip-it is beautiful!
