I would like to find out what the planned activities are at the Marriott Canyon Villas at Desert Ridge. I contacted Marriott via Facebook Messenger and was told: " please download the Marriott Vacation Club app, go to Destinations, find our resort by geographical location, and click on resort activities. From there, you will be able to view the latest activity information." The problem is that the app is apparently made for Apple iphones and I have an Android phone. At the time when I checked a month ago, there wasn't an app for Android. When I went to the Android app store today, I see that there is a fairly new app (finally!!) but it only has a 2* rating, very few followers and.... it doesn't work. I get the message: We're currently having technical difficulties. Please try again."

I'm wondering if someone who is currently at Canyon Villas or who has recently been there in the past month could post their activities schedule. Or, perhaps someone who can actually download a working app could post a screen shot??

Thanks in advance.

I would contact them again and tell them that do to continuing IT issues the app doesn’t work (not working right now on Apple.)
And would they please email a copy.

They offer a full week of activities that vary somewhat week to week. Some are free and some have a small fee. All are well done and fun to attend. You could try calling and ask to speak with someone at the Activities Desk. Maybe they could email you a sample of what is currently being offered.

I took your advice and called. A very nice woman emailed me the list.

The list of activities looked good and, you're right, the fee is small. Recently we were at another timeshare and wine tasting was $50, margarita mixing was $50, etc. I've always found Canyon Villas costs to be very low. They probably cover their variable costs while not trying to recoup their fixed (labor and infrastructure) costs.

Canyon Villas MF's increased by 20.6% this year, including a 10% increase for activities and 66% for Human Resources. MF's for activities at my 6 MVC resorts have been increasing more than inflation for at least the past 3 years. As an owner, I am not happy about funding activities for things we never use, especially now that a majority of guests at most resorts aren't owners. Oceana Palms is the worst offender with an annual activity cost of $107 per week (up 25% from 2 yr ago). I think it is time for MVC to at least charge the costs for these activities to the participants, and eliminate those that aren't being used. Perhaps each guest could receive an activity credit to use for those of greatest interest to them. Activities also impact HR, Administration, and Management fee costs because more staff is needed. Some should also be only conducted in appropriate seasons, such as many activities for children.

I've observed some that have high participation rates at most resorts, such as water exercise classes and nature walks/hikes. These aren't typically high cost and should continue to be funded.

My MF's increased an average of 15% per point, while trust points increased 10%. Weeks owners are absorbing more than their fair share for these costs.
