Marriott cancelled the week I exchanged

I reserved a week (on-line) at my resort with Marriott and received a confirmation #. Then I got on II's website and deposited it with them and made a request at the same time. I've just received an email from Marriott showing that week as a reservation cancellation along with a cancellation #. Is this the way it works? If Marriott is cancelling that week, does II still get it? In other words, is my deposit with II still good?

II/Marriott has done that on our deposits, and it just seems to be the way the way it works. You still have the trading power of that deposit. However, I don't think I have ever received an email from Marriott about it, just saw it online. So might be worth checking out.

This seems to be the normal process. All my Marriott weeks that I deposit with II then show up in my Marriott Rewards reservations list as a cancellation. Just seems to be the way that Marriott work.

This is the way it's always been done. When you deposit it with II, the reservation is no longer in your name, thus it appears as cancelled in your MR account and they send you a cancellation notice.

Is the deposited week with I.I. the same week you originally reserved?

I think I read on here the other day that if you use the option online to reserve a week for deposit through My-vacationclub.com that MVCI assigns it a different confirmation number than if you reserve to occupy. If that is the case, it seems that they have one set of confirmation numbers setup for II deposits and another for home reservations. If you have a week that you initially reserved to occupy but instead end up depositing it, it seems that MVCI cancels your original reservation and assigns it a new confirmation number.

This would make sense since they don't want any confusion when you see the week on Marriott.com and think you might still have occupancy rights to that actual confirmation.

What scares me is I did a request first and if I don't get my II request I want my week back. This way I can cancel the reservation and try with DC points.

I don't think it will be a problem because I told the VOA what my plan was when she saw my other week requesting the same time and place in II. She told me I had a good plan. However, when I saw the cancelation email I got a little nervious but I think (hope) it will be okay.

Just checked my II account. Yes, it is the same week. So I guess all is well. Now I know that Marriott's cancellation email is just a confirmation that I can't check-in because II now has it. Thanks.

This happened to me a couple years ago. I did a request first and then canceled it because I decided to use my week. I invited a few people to go along and then noticed it had been canceled a week before we were to leave. My whole life passed before me, but when I called, I still had it. They just had to give me a new reservation number.

Let's hope this practice doesn't morph into Marriott pulling a Starwood. This is how it could start.

That's what I worry about. I just don't trust them when they say "nothing will change." Especially when you have sales reps trying to convince legacy week owners that if they don't join the DC, don't convert their weeks to points and don't buy additional DC points their original weeks will be worthless. It's this sort of distrust that is built when salesmen lie to get additional buisness.

This bothered me too when I did a request first because the email makes it look like Marriott cancelled the reservation. The VOA told me it was to protect my personal account information. The new reservation is just room information but not my account information.

I've cancelled some of these II requests and received my weeks back with no problem.

The email could be written with better clarification as it's obviously confusing.

Same thing happened to me last year. I almost had a heart attack! I called Marriott and learned it was cancelled because I had a (request-first) exchange request. It seems to me they should either explain that before hand, or figure out a different way to handle it. How many others have panicked over nothing?
