I've been having problems for the last 4 days trying to complete Points reservations on the website. It allows me to go through all the steps, but won't complete the reservation. I tried the app, but the points requirement for the apps reservation was higher (46,000 vs 40,000). Has anyone successfully completed a reservation on the website recently, and has anyone else noticed higher point requirements on the app vs website?

I just booked a one-night at the hotel around the corner from me on Windows 10 / Firefox. No issues. I also see the same points rates on the app, but I have seen that happen where the web site vs. the app are different (and might change in a couple of hours).

I just tried again:

This service is temporarily unavailable. But don't worry, we're on it. Please try again later.

Added: I tried it with Firefox and still no luck. I plan to call this afternoon. They must be using the same IT consultants as MVC

I booked a points reservation yesterday on my computer with Safari browser. I have never compared the points on the app, but now that you say that you've seen a difference I will be checking for that -- thanks.

The problem seems to occur when I try to add something in the 'additional request' section. I typically add room requests or other comments to this section when making a reservation. Every time I try now, I get the error message. I was finally able to make my points reservation by not adding any requests to this section.

So, since I've been obsessively searching for London hotels today, I thought I would also get out my app and see if I could spot differences between the points rates on the app vs. website. And yes, I absolutely can. However, I think no matter which you use you will end up at the same rate.

The app doesn't seem to display the "PointSavers" rates, and displays the usual points required. If you use the Marriott site on your computer, they have some of the points prices in green text and are labelled Points Saver and are discounted rates.

One example is December 11-12, London Marriott Hotel Marble arch. On the app, it says the points are 69,000 for a night, but when you click to book it shows the points required are 55,200. However, when you use the Marriott site on your computer it correctly shows the PointSavers rate of 55,200.

That said, even the Marriott site is deceptive, sometimes those points saver rates advertised are not to book a night, but instead are points required PLUS cash.

Knowing this, I'm never going to look at the app first and will make sure I click on each of the hotels I'm interested to make sure the points required are for the whole stay and I'm not expected to add cash to the points shown.

This happened to me! Turns out the cc was expired! You would think the webpage will tell you that but nope - keeps giving me the above "error"

Today I was trying to book something for my mom and she wanted the non-refundable rate. I was able to see the rate for a 4 night stay on the app but when I shortened it to 3 nights, I could not see the non-refundable rate anymore. I logged into the marriott.com site on my computer and there was the non-refundable rate! I need to check the website more often. I book 99% of my stays via the app.

This has happened to me in the past sporadically on website. Maddening. I just call. Never seen the price difference.

Because of previous experience with bugs in the app I only trust it for chat and check-out.

That said, Marriott Int'l heard the user complaints about the app and put their crack IT team on the problem. They removed the disparity of user experiences and so now the website is more or less as buggy as the app...just with different ones.

My most recent adventure involved adding a NUA to a reservation. The first time I tried on the website and it gave an error. The second time I tried on the website and it went through...but when I then checked the reservation (because with Marriott's IT one has to do these things) no NUA. So I tried the app and it successfully attached the NUA. Go figure...and YMMV.
