Marriott bedding updated.

I think it's time to bring up Marriott beds again. I've been on travels since mid Feb and have stayed in several full service Marriotts as well as timeshares (Beachplace and Canyon Villas).

The new Revive bedding in the hotels is terrific - they even come with featherbeds on top of the mattress, 7 down & foam pillows, down filled comforter and bed scarf. The whole Marriott Revive bed is made for a good night's sleep IMO and probably due to the success Westin had with their 'Heavenly Bed', but I think Marriott's got Westin beat now.

But when you get to the timeshares it's obvious they haven't kept up with the bedding changes made to Marriott hotels. This was no more evident than seeing the difference between the JW Marriott Desert Ridge where I stayed 2 nights and checking into Canyon Villas last night. Sure, the timeshare mattress is better than the old 4" foam, but they are just thicker foam now and not even close to the Revive bedding. The timeshares do have the Revive soap now so perhaps that's a good sign of things to come? Any thoughts?

Marriott Sawgrass has the revive beds. We stayed there last fall.

Agree that Marriott hit this one right on. But I suspect the rollout into the existing timeshares will be slower since it comes out of owner funds.

I suspect that most of the timeshares will replace the bedding on their 5 yr refurb schedule.......

We just stayed at the Grand Chateau. I will assume that those are the Revive Beds...

We did not like them that much. I wouldn't say hate them, as they are very comfy when you first sit or lay onthem, bed we found they did not fit our concept of a great matress like the Suite Dreams or the Heavenly Bed. I think the top layer is some type of foam (ememory or dense?) You kind of sink in a bit and the top inch or so forms to your body... there did not seem to be any recoil (spring).

I would give them about a 6/10, whereas the Suite Dreams and Heavenly are about the same at 9/10 for us.

I love the 'current' Marriott timeshare beds! If the new ones are even more comfortable then that's even better!

I also imagine they'll be replaced when it's time as part of the refurbishment cycle. I wouldn't want perfectly good beds to be replaced 'yet' and affecting my maintenance fees!

I don't think what you've described is the 'Revive' bedding I slept on in the JW hotels I've been to recently - those didn't have a layer of foam on them but a 3" thick featherbed cover (like a duvet) then the fitted sheet, with another top sheet and light duvet. The concept is very 'white' and is completed with a gold bed throw (scarf) across the bottom of the bed and a half dozen pillows. The scarf is a comfy to snuggle up with. Believe me, this is not a foam bed cover and is very upscale. I forgot to check to see if the mattress itself was foam or innerspring but Jamieson does like foam. On Ebay I see "Pacific Coast" bedding advertised as used on Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels, among others, but I'm not familiar with that brand.

I suspect our timeshares could go that route with the thick foam mattress most have now by just adding the featherbed cover and the sheeting/duvet which shouldn't cost that much in the quantities they buy at. A Marriott friend told me they were offered to permanent hotel staff at about $700 complete with mattress as hotel 'tag on' orders when the Revive bedding first came out...but I've seen their resale site and retail prices are sky high (like Westin's). So, if the internal prices are that low it wouldn't affect the maintenance very much.

I just came back from the Grand Chatteau and liked the bedding. The pillows are Pacific Coast. I am not sure about the mattress though. Brian I really don't believe it was the Revive as it wasn't as good as you described the Revive bedding being. Although I would love to have the Revive bedding in our Marriott timeshares I don't it is very practical to expect it now. I actually thought the furniture in the GC was very low budget and not as good as other Marriott TS's.

I just wish they would get better bed linens for the timeshares. The sheets & mattress pads are junk. After 10 minutes it's like they've been wallowed on for weeks. The worst is the thin, scratchy fitted sheets. We just returned from NCV 2 days ago & we vowed to bring a fitted sheet from home next time.

Talked to the Canyon Villas manager tonight and he said the Revive bedding is on the way and Canyon Villas will be first. The new manager at Ocean Pointe also told us recently that there had been a trial at OP with the bedding and it's on the way to being installed there.

Brian, I looked on this mattress in the JW and couldn't find a label. However, it looks just like the new thicker mattresses at OP. The fluffy pillow top is in the mattress pad.

Thanks Quilter...good to hear CV is getting new bedding. Amazingly, one half of the king bed is much harder than the other - I suspect there was a change in one of the box springs underneath to do that. I moved to the soft side. I'm not too happy though when my toes get caught in the holes in the sheets.

I'm in one of the original 3 buildings, a little more than two years old and already showing signs of aging. The dryer door latch was broken - the icemaker wouldn't make ice - the lock on the balcony door won't open - A/C really has two settings 'on & off' regardless of where you set the temp. Someone isn't minding the store here as I've never seen so many things go wrong at one time.

I watched construction of the nearest units near us and saw that it's not much more than wood and drywall - no cement separating the 3 floors like in BeachPlace and Manor Club - which explains why I can hear the woman snoring upstairs each night and her kids bouncing a basketball at 6 am each morning. Considering Marriott sells these suites for $1.3 million each ($25k x 52) I think owners deserve a little more quality.

The weather is great and I do love AZ. It's 96 today.

I suspect the construction differences have more to do with local building codes than anything else. Does anyone know if Marriott builds to code or code plus?

We just spent the week at Grand Vista, talk about about great weather-near 90 everyday and no humidity! Speaking of the beds, I thought the pillows were fine and the bed was pretty comfortable but the sheets were tired and the bottom sheet was not fitted. With the way I move around at night that bottom sheet had to be reset every morning. Plus the comforter/bed spread weighed about 40 pounds. We thought that was too heavy for Florida kind of climate. Other than that little picky thing, the resort was great.

Brian, you might check under the firmer side of the bed and see if there's a bedboard slipped in there. I usually ask for one because these mattresses run a little too soft for me.

The premature aging thing happened at Ocean Pointe also. The Sailfish & Dolphin buildings really took a beating before the others were built. Sailfish especially. Sorry to hear about all the room damage. Hope you make sure to write Marriott a note when you leave.

No hurricanes here in Phoenix. Must be part of the reason for such light building codes. You're right, the buildings should reflect the actual cost but with timeshares, owners don't examine the construction specs the way an individual owner would so there's not much incentive for the developer to put in more than they can get away with. I was told by my original salesperson that much of the cost of a week was due to marketing. Everytime owners get points for a tour, salegallery furniture, ads, etc. all gets rolled into the purchase price.

Just checked in to our flights for tomorrow. It's in the 60's back home. Time to clean up the garden and give the deck some of the relaxing touches we had at the spa today. If you haven't had a chance yet, make time for the spa. We were there today from 8 a.m. until closing at 7.

I have. I must have sensitive radar because I felt I could pick out every whining child and family arguement at the pool this week. My husband can just keep reading his book. Me--I know that the kids to the left of me are mean to the little sister and the woman to the right of me talks disrespectfully to her aging mother. Not to mention the cell phone calls that go on around me. Why is it people feel they have to yell so the person on the other end can hear them 3 time zones away? We've had no neighbors next door until yesterday. They have small children. Maybe I'll sleep tonight, maybe I won't. Oh yeah, I brought earplugs and Ambien

The worst was laying in bed at a timeshare in Hawaii convinced I could hear bugs in the wall chewing away all night long. We got a room change the next day. My daughter still brings that one up whenever she wants to discuss my pickiness during travelling. Gives the family something to laugh about

I know it's not all in my head. In February there was a short power outage at Ocean Pointe. When the power came back on I went to the manager and asked for her help. I told her there had been a bothersome noise on the roof before the outage and after the electricity came back on it was sure to drive me whacko during the week. She called engineering and sure enough a pump motor was blown out during the power surge.
