Marriott Aruba Surf Club Rental using Redweek

I recently renting a week from an individual for the Aruba Surf Club, . I found the week listed on Redweek, and it was listed as a Garden view. After the week was put into my name I went to my Marriott Bonvoy account to confirm that the reservation was indeed in my name, which it was. However, I noted that the reservation showed that it was a oceanside view. When i contacted the company which had listed the week for the owner I was told that regardless of the view the owner had reserved they always list the Surf Club as the cheapest view possible in case that is the view that is actually provided at check in. I contacted Redweek which could not provide any assistance, since the listing was not verified or protected, and suggested I contact the owner. I then contacted the Surf Club directly, regarding the view, and received the following response:

"Reservations made with Marriott Bonvoy it comes with room category.
Vacation Club comes with room category as well.
Renters will receive the category of rooms they rented.
Redweek reservations will NOT come with room category so whatever rooms are available during arrival, as well as reservations from Interval International.
Owners that rented their timeshare: When an owner rented their timeshare and changed the name ( in this case to your name) it becomes like an Interval Reservation in Exchange.
( they need to bank it before changing it to you name. Therefore your reservation is without a category attached. In our point it shows from Interval Exchange."

Does this mean any Surf Club reservation rental made through Redweek does not guarantee the view which is listed?

TIA

The only time the view would not be guaranteed would be if the listing was renting you an Interval reservation (which is against the rules of both Interval and Redweek) but can still happen particularly for a non Verified listing.

I was assured that it wasn't an interval reservation, but I guess anything is possible. Would an interval reservation, have a Marriott reservation number and show up in my Bonvoy account? If it is listed as an oceanside view on my Marriott Bonvoy account, can I assume that is the view I will get?

Yes- Interval reservations have Marriott reservations numbers and can be added to your Bonvoy account.

How soon do you check-in?

I have had an interval reservations show as one view in Bonvoy initially and then once they assign the actual unit it was changed to reflect the actual view I was assigned closer to check-in day. (In my case it was an upgrade from an oceanview to an ocean front at Ocean Watch in MB, but it definitely changed from one view to the other in my Bonvoy account after I made my preference requests via email)

NO..you should not assume you will get an Oceanside view.

I would expect that if it is a true Home Resort owner reservation that you should get the same view as the owner reserved. I am not sure I understand the issue. In this case, I wouldn't fuss about it all that much. They promised Garden View, if you get Oceanside then consider that a bonus. You aren't guaranteed anything more than GV that was listed in the ad.

As far as the resort is concerned, they don't know that it was rented through Redweek or your own personal relationship with the owner. Nor should they care.

I usually wouldn't be questioning the view, except that I would like to add a day on either end of the week and would prefer not to have to change villas.

If it were me, then I would book an oceanside view. Then there is perhaps a better chance that they will keep the view on the owner booking when they tie it to your single night reservation. That process has worked in the past for many people.
