New to Marriott (haven't received my materials yet and requesting selling agent to make reservation for us), and I have a question about the 12 mo reservation policy. I'm sorry if I missed it but I read thru the sticky notes at top and it listed calling at 9 am 12 mo in advance of earliest check-in date for that week. I thought I heard there was a way on a 12 mo rez to go online the eve before opens to phone calls, like when it turns midnight eastern the night before? Am I confusing this with parts of our Vistana ownership or what are the options for making rez? Thanks much!

Sone people have reported reservations using points opening early. Week reservations open at 9am EST sharp. Not a second before

Thanks for your response. So are the 9am reservations all made by calling in, or is there a way to book them online also? Thanks!

At 12 months you can do it online. I suggest familiarizing yourself with the site the week before.

Are talking you talking about reserving a Deeded Ownership week? or Points? They are different.
I'll address WEEKS because I think you meant weeks.

Weeks SHOULD BE done online and only after 9:00 EST...actually 9:00:00:02 (you know what I mean----less than one second past 9:00 am EST!)
Make sure you have the EXACT date 12 months prior to the date you can legally book.
There are tools at the MVC website to tell you when that day is (Resources > Helpful Tools > When Can I Reserve).
Enter the check-in day you want and it'll tell you the first day at 9:00am that you can reserve it.

The way to accomplish that is to sit at your computer, watching the clock (it's official Denver or Greenwich time,
which is deadly accurate and your reference).
About a week before do a trial run to familiarize yourself with the process.

Then about 10 minutes prior to your booking time, do another trial run.....Go to the page for booking (MVC website, "Book My Week").
When you look at your resort chart, it won't be seen as available yet, but at 9:00:00:01 the check-in date boxes will pop up as available,
but only if you REFRESH the chart just after 9:00am as described above. Refreshing is the key.

If you watch the clock and the chart and don't refresh, it'll stay blank and no availability boxes will show UNTIL YOU REFRESH.
So, having refreshed exactly at 9:00:01 (I wait an extra second or two only), you immediately see the boxes for Fri, Sat Sun pop up.
Click on what you want, and ENTER/SUBMIT, whatever it says!----it's ridiculously EASY, but yet stressful due to the importance.
But before 9:00 in your trial run, practice REFRESHING every 20 seconds or so, which updates the availability,
so up until 9:00 it'll NOT be available. Be sitting on READY TO REFRESH as the time mark approaches.

For 12 month reservations (assuming only one week to book) it SHOULD BE DONE ONLINE ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calling in for a single week will often be fruitless, as the weeks are all gone by the time you get through to an agent.
Most of the reason is that everybody else has already done it online.
Online is fastest because you avoid all the phone call pre-booking questionnaire which accompanies the call.
By the time they get around to looking for availability, your desired week is potentially gone.
This usually applies only to popular weeks, though, so if you want a non-holiday or moderately popular week, you can call, but why bother?
Do it online, and get used to doing it online. Even NOW you can do a dozen online trial runs and get the process down pat.

FYI, if on the other hand you have TWO weeks you want to book consecutively or concurrently at 13 months,
you MUST do it by calling only; you can't do it online.

For Destination Points reservations I just call.
Despite our having about 18,000 potential enrolled points if we deposit weeks for Points exchange,
we usually don't use them much. Maybe only for 2-3 weeks annually, or individual days.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for such detailed info, I greatly appreciate it! Yes, we just bought 2 weeks (not points) at the Marriott Aruba Surf Club. It has passed ROFR but our closing papers are still not back from Marriott after over 6 weeks. Our sales agent said she would do the booking for us thru the sellers accts and then transfer to our name at closing since it is platinum and needs be book for Jan thru early May. I'm sure once I have access to the MVC site it will be much easier to see how it works. One other question, so if I would want to lock a week off can that be done online at 9AM and does it let me book say my 1 BR and then my studio consecutively or do I need to somehow click on something to lock-off then book one half and then do same process week later? In the future I will probably be taking advantage of the 13 mo call in and locking off but I'm buying from 2 different owners so right now I can only have agent book at 12 mo for me. Thanks much!!

I sent you a PM........and congratulations on your purchases! Your great Marriott adventure begins.

I’m guessing Jme answered all your questions in his PM but congrats on your purchases. It’s our favorite place! We, too, own two weeks but a 2BR Plat and a 3BR Gold. The Gold week is our summer family vacation week with the kids/grandkids. Except for 2020 it’s been an annual tradition since our second grandson was 3 months old, and the kids look forward to it every year!
Platinum season is great to get away from the cold at home.
With two units and locking off you can conceivably book 4 weeks in a row at 13 months from the first desired weekend for an extended stay- lucky you!!

Thank you! We traded into the Surf Club about 8 times and decided with retirement coming soon it was time to buy there and spend more weeks out of the cold. When we traded in we have taken several of our children/grandchildren along and they all loved it too! Aruba ( along with Maui/Kauai ) is our favorite too, but Aruba is a shorter, more reasonably priced flight for them to visit us. It also is nice to not have a 5 hour time change to adjust too lol!!

Thank you! Yes, we are excited at the new opportunities it opens for us. We will have to learn all the new Marriott ways and keep them all straight since I have the Vistana ways down, and separate booking ways too at our Hanalei Bay which we can book at 25 mo prior to first week!

Don't mean to hijack this thread but the question was asked earlier by the poster and was never answered publicly. I had the same question. If you are locking off the unit can this be done easily online, or should you call to lock it off? We also just bought at Aruba Surf Club. Some years I would like to lock off and use the units at different times of the season not consecutively.

You can lock off and reserve online at 12 months. If you own an unenrolled week, you pay the $90 lock off fee for the first reservation you make from the unit.

When you start the online reservation process you need to select whether you want to occupy the full villa or which part you’re making a reservation for. This can be done online. However, if you’ve already booked the full villa and want to lock off and change part of the reservation you need to call
All 2BRs at the Surf Club are lock offs so all are eligible to lock off. If you decide to lock off and deposit into II at a later date you can do that by calling as well.

This is great information. I am in the process of buying a Marriott Grand Chateau 2 bedroom to lock off and exclusively trade the 1 bedroom and studio. If I lock off and want to book the same date for both, do I book the 1B at 9am sharp, then do the process again for the studio. If yes then there is a risk that all that date is gone before booking the studio. Am I better off reserving the 2 bedroom then locking off?

It is far easier to book online. Your process is correct. You go online and make the 1BR reservation and pay the fee. When that is done you can go back in and make the studio reservation. There is a chance that it may no longer be available, but I would say it is fairly small unless you are trying to reserve the highest demand week possible. Even if you don't get the same week, if you are trading you can just reserve a different week to deposit instead.

If you want to trade your week then you don't have to worry about the 9 am reservation process. Why? Because most weeks in a season at the grand chateau will trade about the same. So you just go online pick a good week and do the reservations.

So why then this 9am stuff? Because there are some weeks, during some seasons, at some resorts that are really, REALLY popular. Newport Coast is an example. A gold spring week is easy to reserve even 9 months ahead BUT a summer platinum week, must be reserved 12 months ahead at 9 am.

Hope this helps
