Hello fellow Tuggers! I booked a 2-bedroom 7-night stay at MarBrisa in November using a VIP package -- does anyone know what room type/building they put VIP reservations in? My reservation confirmation says "no requested or guaranteed views available."

It will be our first visit to the area -- any tips or recommendations for things to do or places to eat around Carlsbad? We're travelling with 2 kids (age 6 and 8), so I'm thinking of getting the Go City San Diego card and hitting up Legoland, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo/Safari Park, and maybe even heading up to LA for Knott's Berry Farm and Dinos Alive (my daughter loves Jurassic World). There is so much to do, I think my problem will be narrowing things down and not overloading the kids. I'm sure they'll want to spend time enjoying the resort pool as well.

Does the VIP package say that it will be at Marbrisa or a nearby hotel?

MarBrisa -- this is the $1795 package for 7200 club points good for up to 7 nights at select HGVC properties. It was offered to us at the end of a sales presentation.

@pugs3602 The number of points (7,200, old conversion is 4,500) corresponds closely to a two bedroom park view.

I own at Grand Pacific Palisades which is close by. We have taken our kids there since 2012. Costco is also very close. We normally make a trip on day of check in to Costco for breakfast, lunch and snacks for the week. Also great for a pizza night out too.

If it was me I would skip Knotts and the Dino park. We did it once and Knotts is just to far with so much more to do around Carlsbad. Traffic could be horrendous as well. Other considerations (and low cost) - day at the beach, relaxing day at the pool (fantastic pool area with slide), walking downtown Carlsbad, the nearby shopping outlets, and In-N-Out for a cheap dinner.

You and the family will enjoy the resort. I suggest Palisades too if you ever get a chance to book it. Great family resort with a dedicated kids pool, splash area and activities throughout the day.

Thanks RX8 - I appreciate your recommendations and advice regarding skipping Knott's and Dino. My husband had wanted to do Disneyland but definitely not enough time for that. Looks like we'll just need to book a separate trip to LA :)
