Maps of Route 66 Road Trip
By Suzanne Rowan Kelleher/ Inspiration/ Road Trips/ TripSavvy/ tripsavvy.com

"Arguably the most iconic of all American road trips, Route 66 was established in 1926 and is one of the original US highways. The route known as the Mother Road runs between Chicago and Los Angeles, covering 2,451 miles and passing through eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Planning a Route 66 Road Trip
Thinking about a Route 66 road trip? Depending on how much ground you cover in a day, the entire trip could be done in as little as a week or much longer if you take time to stop and explore along the way....."

Sure are a lot of missing roads on this map. Like I-10-20-30-80. And more. I love maps. Primarily old road maps. Some 40 years ago, at a Peterbilt dealer in Connecticut that had been there since the 1940's, the owner was selling off a bunch of old 'stuff, and had a folding, paper, pre-interstate USA map. As you see, I'm still kicking my butt for not buying it.

The Route 66 motorcycle trips seem (or at least seemed) to be very popular. We encountered several groups, including groups from Europe, who were doing those.

I think the fun would be in exploring sites and attractions along the way, that would make the trip quite long but why not is you are going that far.

I like old maps too. It actually is very amazing how many things they crammed into those things. People today who can't really read old maps have no idea that they show many things other than just the roads, lakes, cities. Say rest areas, etc. It was a really elegant design.
