THese look good I was wondering though if they tell you where you can find places to snorkel close to the beach. Last time I was there I never found good snorkeling and I know it exists. If not mapchick what else could Tuggers suggest?

I can not say enough about Laura (Mapchick) and Perry's maps. They are great.

you don't say where "there" is, so I'm not sure which map you are considering.

They are very comprehensive and do list various activities & attractions on them. They are like having a guide book and map all rolled into one.

I second BSQ's recommendation. We have explored countless places we never would have evern known about if we hadn't had those maps. They even provide good information on places to eat in the various areas!

I agree, Mapchick's maps are excellent. We have purchased several of her maps, and they are very helpful.

We have found the best snorkeling in the Cancun area to be at Puerto Morelos, about 10-15 minutes south of Cancun. We took a tour called "Snorkle Adventure" a few years ago, and this is where we went. If you are looking for a package, Snorkle Adventure was a good one.

Thanks for the advice we will be staying at the mayan palace next July so I will wait until mapchick updates her maps. The website says this should happen late this year or early next. Glad to hear the snorkeling is good around Puerto Morelos as that is very close to the mayan palace. Anything close enough to shore we don't have to pay for a tour?

I think there is a place to snorkle off shore around the Westin Regina, at the southern end of Cancun hotel zone. We have never snorkled there, so we can't attest to the quality of the reefs, wildlife, etc.

Another place to snorkle is at Xel-Ha, but you would have to pay an entrance fee. Xel-Ha is an estuary (I believe) and is south of Playa del Carmen. The snorkeling here is just okay, but it is a neat place to see in general. I think they have Dolphin Swims here too. They have a website, try doing a google search.

There are a couple of other websites for Cancun information that I have used before, they are www.cancunandrivieramaya.com and www.cancunmx.com They have message boards on both of these websites, with Cancun "experts" to answer questions.

Mapchick posts on the the cancunandrivieramaya website I mentioned above, in fact, it is where I found out about her maps.
