My (adult) daughter got a mini iPad gift and I've been setting it up with her. The blind leading the blind.

The infamous 'MAP' program is really poor compared to my old iPad. I've read you can download the 'old' MAP program but it doesn't have the 'STREET' ability...neither does the Apple Map program.

I'm afraid to upgrade my iPad to IOS 6 because I use the street view all the time when locating places I want to go.

Is she stuck with this very basic map app without street view or am I missing something in the setup?

Are you loading Google Earth, or Google maps? Google Earth has the Streetview feature.

Unfortunately, if you use Google Maps to get the Streetview feature, it doesn't link to other apps in the iPhone which are tied to the Apple Map. For me, I like the linking aspect because everything is automated. I had the Google Map App but took it off.

Really? We loaded Google Earth on our new iPad, and I didn't see the street view at all. Perhaps I missed it somehow?

So I guess I don't upgrade to IOS 6 in order to keep the original map/street app on my iPad, but my daughter unfortunately doesn't have that choice. :(

I went all out and bought the Garmin North America app ($35), which turned my iPhone 4 (not 'S') into a Garmin GPS. Free updates, maps of the entire US and Canada. It does not have satellite view, but it will load contacts (with addresses) into the map.
