Major league

I worked at the time for the outfit that provided the beater looking airplane.

Do you watch Psych? I love when they have flashbacks, and Corbin Bernsen puts on a wig and pretends to be 25 years younger. It always reminds me of his handsome young glory days, when he was in L.A. Law and Major League.

one of my favorite movies

Was that plane actually in use at the time for carrying passengers? Too funny that you worked for them.

While they did make a point of hiring actors who were decent athletes, they still had to make some allowances. The big one is shooting scenes in slow motion when an illusion of speed was needed. They did that every time Wesly Snipes was running or making a catch, when Charlie Sheen would be pitching, and during Tom Berenger's game-winning bunt.

*****

One of my favorite lines from the movie is when Charlie Sheen shows up at camp, and when asked what league he was in last year he says California. Pressed further he adds "Penal".

They also made some changes involving the Rachel Phelps' character. In one version of the movie, it's revealed at the end that she never wanted to move the team. But knowing that the team that she inherited had no future, she decided to let them go and instead find a bunch of players who had talent but had never been given a good chance. That plot device actually worked to explain why the guys who showed up at the spring training actually had potential. She hadn't just gone out and brought in a bunch of scrubs. Under that story line, the difficulties of the season also were a device she used to get them to gel together, and she took on the role of the common enemy for them to rally around.

That version didn't test well in previews. The audiences much preferred her as a simple villain. So that was the way they put together the final version.
