I received a letter offering participation in a "program that may eliminate maintenance fees for timeshare owners". It was a courtesy notice only, for a limited time, with a phone number to call to see if I could qualify. Anyone else seen this?

They will want to eliminate approximately 3,500 from your bank account . . . .

I think if you have a CC and are willing to bring it along with your deed info and anyone else on the deed to their hard sell presentation you will meet the initial qualification. To really qualify to eliminate your MF you will probably need to sign a limited POA and give the company $2000-$4000, or maybe more like $8000-$12000 but then you will also get membership in a travel club. No more MF's just club dues unless they fail to transfer your TS out of your name in which case you will still have your MF's too.

Or the other variant, if a Wyndham owner, which is to SELL you MORE points at an over inflated price. Their pitch being that they will RENT those purchased points for you which will pay for your maintenance fees.

The common theme with all is that they want your money.

If it sounds too good to be true....

If you do a search for the name of the outfit, there is a fairly current thread about them. For the short answer- yes, we've heard of them. It's a scam.

Yes, I received one of those letters. I threw it in the trash.

Much as we'd all like to believe, there is _no_ free lunch.
There are many ways to spell SCAM. This is merely one variant.

I received one  from: Resort Owners Association 3208 East Colonial Drive Ste C #306 Orlando, FL 32803.

into the circular file...

Freedom Travel Club

Funny I just came back from this scam and that is how I found this site?! They are now located in Celebration Florida....I am able to test the service before buying the entire service. I'm now researching this company to see what i can find. They did offer me $4200 for my BG timeshare and if you seen Ebay that was a very good offer.

Please let us know if that actually closes and you are free and clear, with the money.

Since 1marantz talks about testing the services before buying, I think he means that they discounted the "services" (vacation club-maybe) by $4200 and he still has to buy something. Be careful they may not really transfer your current ownership and you will find you may still be on the hook for your current MF's in addition to whatever you pay for the services of the company in question.

There is no way they are giving away $4200 free and clear for a BG ownership.

Real Estate Tax records and Deed records are considered Public Documents.

That said, anyone (even scammers) can obtain names and addresses.

.

yes they offered $4200 for the BG Timeshare. Which could be used to decrease the cost of their Prime club membership. Now as far as testing. The smallest package was for $995.00 for use of the club for 18 months. To see if it what you want. That would also hold the "special" one time offers for 1 year. Such as Buying my BG Timeshare.
In a totally different subject. I did get a call from a timeshare buyer that said he would sell my BG Timeshare for $27K if I gave him $2K to list it. That I find hard to believe....but I did point out to her that I could buy the same timeshare on Ebay for $1....

Tell him you'll double his cut to $4000 if he takes his cut out of the proceeds of the sale.
