I’m thinking I want to try out a couple of the restaurants available for the Magical Dining this year. Ruth’s Chris is probably going to be one. Does anyone have any recommendations? Some background and the link to Magical Dining:

Proceeds from Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining will enable Feed the Need to increase the number of nutritious meals to be served to thousands throughout Orange County — and participating restaurants will also give you the chance to increase your donation if desired.

Magical Dining sounds like Disney. What does Ruth's Chris have to do with Disney?

Probably Orlando is just capturing an audience using the term, since everyone associates the city with the theme park. More people will probably consider dining for charity.

It isn’t Disney. It is a bunch of restaurants offering 3 course meals for $35 and a whole dollar goes to charity. Then you can give more to the charity if you choose. It is limited menus at most though. The Brazilian steakhouses look like the regular meals which in general is too much food for me.

A lot of cities do a program like this at least once a year. It is usually called "Restaurant Week" or something similar, and it is usually during a slow season for dining out. My husband and I have a reservation for mid-September here at home for a very nice steakhouse at a good price.

We have Restaurant Week as well, but the money doesn't go to charity as it sounds like this event in Orlando is. Our Restaurant Week in Santa Fe is in February, which is a slow time for us.

Our "Restaurant Week" is for two weeks at the end of February / beginning of March. Some great deals, but you really need to make reservations far in advance as every place is booked solid for those weeks. I know some amount / percentage goes to help out the local food banks, which I think is nice.

Thanks for the warning. I am doing Disney parks this trip but would like to try some non-Disney restaurants. I’ll likely grab a Ruth’s Chris reservation before I travel to be sure I have that one but wait on any others until I see how the week goes.
