I know Los Suenos is one of those properties that has very limited vacation club inventory. I have yet to see it available for more than 2-3 days and I was looking at the 13 month mark and still see nothing for next year. I can book the vacation club unit through Marriott hotel inventory - but the cash price even with owner discount is pretty high. Just wondering if anyone else has had luck and did you book right at the 13 month mark? Thanks!

It's being sold as a deeded week property, not points. So in order for you to use points, someone who owns must give up their week and that is generally after the 12 mos mark I believe. It is frustrating to see on the Bonvoy site and not here but this plays out often. I tried looking for a friend the other day and with my 2VC discount, I was able to get a studio for $155....thats not bad at all.

While tough to get into, it's worth it to keep trying. We went in Nov '21 in a 1 bedroom for 11 night and go next week in a studio for 7 nights using MVC points. Don't give up.

We spent 2 x Weeks [2BR] last summer [End-June -> July-4th Week 2022].
We booked at the 13-Month mark [End-May-2021].

Have read the beach at the Los Suenos property is not good. As in terrible Was that your experience? I’ve been hesitating because of that. Thanks.

Interesting - so are properties outside the US only selling weeks? They of course never mention that but it explains a lot. I will keep trying. Maybe my looking in Costa Rica peak season isn’t going to work, I would agree your studio price isn’t bad but we needed the 2 bedroom and it was 1200 for 3 nights (with taxes).

It's just different. If you're used to the Caribbean white sand / clear water vibe you won't be happy. The sand is gray (volcanic) and the water like the mid-Atlantic of the U.S.

The international resorts sell weeks except for Asia Pacific Points. I don't know how the two Bali resorts and Surfers Paradise are handled. Not sure if they are weeks or part of AP.

Weeks were only ever sold at Phuket Beach Club and with the introduction of the Asia Pacific (AP) Points Programme many years ago now all unsold Weeks inventory was conveyed to the AP Points Programme.
For Bali, there is an Indonesian Points Programme
For Surfer’s Paradise, there is an Australian Points Programme
These have some key differences, but essentially they are all part of the wider AP Points Programme.

All of the international locations (with the except of those that belong to the separate Asia Points program) are sold as weeks. They have never been a part of the US based points trust.

I borrowed this picture from a trip advisor post. Its not a beach you would want to sit out on like Hawaii or Frenchmans Cove etc. So if a white sandy beach is a must have, you might be disappointed. But, the resort/pool/grounds/ Los Suenos area, make up for it in my opinion.

I booked one week on 13 month inventory release day at 9AM precisely, 2 BR no issue. Got up the following week, booked a second consecutive week at precisely 9AM 13 month mark. Was not an issue for me.

The sand looks muddy, but it's just the color. Black sand beaches are exactly the same as white/tan sand other than the color.

Oh yeah. That’s not very inviting. Thanks.

What about the property itself- pools, surrounding areas, etc.? Proximity to restaurants, things to do?

The resort itself is really nice. If you compare it to the JW in Guanacaste, its comparable. The pool is great with a swim up bar. If you golf, there is a course right there. The Los Suenos area is also really nice, we usually get up and go for an hour walk.....all within the Los Suenos area. The Los Suenos marina is a very short walk from the resort with million dollar yachts and there are some good restaurants right there. As for things to do....if you have a car there are some great places to visit; rainforest zip lining, Manual Antonio National Park, multiple water falls etc. Also, sport fishing right at the marina as well as, CostaCat to Tortuga Island. I'm excited to fly out on Thursday !

Do some searches, most all the reviews I've read here on TUG about the property are very favorable.

It’s a very nice property. We actually didn’t rent a car….we had a driver pick us up at the airport and then we used tour companies for zip lining, and Tortuga Island that picked us up at the resort which was very nice and stress free and FUN! We ate only at the hotel and the food was good. This was in 2013, so it didn’t have timeshares yet, but we had a one bedroom suite connected to a two queen room which was great for our family. And yes, the beach isn’t like Hawaii with chairs and umbrellas for you(that would be Tortuga island…make sure to do that excursion!), but the water is nice and warm for swimming. And the lush resort grounds and pool make up for it.

Have a fantastic time! And let us know how it goes!

The resort is fantastic - not much to add there. A couple of additional things:

The grocery store is about a mile up the road was very nice. It was well stocked with local fruits and vegetables, and other items you'll want for the week.

We took a tour at the Carara National Park; and contracted a local gentleman to guide us through the park. He was well worth the cost - he located animal life - howler monkeys, birds, toads and frogs, spiders, and other things that we would have passed without ever noticing. We also enjoyed a fresh caught fish at a local restaurant that was awesome.

Another hightlight was a chocolate tour; We learned a little biology, chemistry, history. It wouldn't have been complete if we didn't get a little taste testing.

The trip to Tortuga Island was awesome! I can't recall the cost, but the concierge at the hotel will take care of you. The all-inclusive day included drinks, lunch, snorkeling, and an :45 - 1:00 boat ride to the island.

The city of Jaco is nearby, but overall, we were not impressed by the shops or the beach in that area. We ventured out to a couple of other towns as well, but driving is not for the faint of heart; GPS works, but the fastest suggested route didn't always appear to be the safest due to narrow roads, winding roads through the moutntains, and potholes.

Manual Antonio National Park is quite far but well worth it. The beach there is gorgeous and the one where the battle in Spy Kids 3 was shot(I think it was 3). So pack some towels etc. There is a small cafe close to the beach and there are restrooms and facilities to get dressed. After an early morning tour you may enjoy some time at the beautiful beach.
