Hi. My 23 year old son and his girlfriend are looking to travel to Greece, Italy, or Switzerland in the time period of [dates retracted so this doesnt look like an Ad] for a week or so. Anyone have any good ideas of where they should stay? Should they look for a timeshare? Thanks!!!

If they are looking to get lodging in cities or popular tourism destinations Americans customarily want to see, I'd suggest hotels or B & Bs. There are few timeshares and those that do exist generally don't exchange with the big American exchanges. Rick Steves' and Lonely Planet guides will list establishments the writers have found reliable and used to catering to Americans.

If the young couple are on a budget, a hostel would work. My 20-year-old DGS is soloing through SE Asia right now (God bless him) and he is staying at airbnb's. I suspect that staying in one place such as in a t/s might be too limiting for a first visit to Europe.

We just did Airbnb in Italy and the apartments were gorgeous, middle of town, and really reasonable. Fees seemed much lower than American airbnbs. We needed places that would sleep 5 and paid $1700 all in for ten nights in two locations-couldve gone much cheaper for just two.

Hapimag, which invented the timeshare concept, is a Swiss based company and has lots of resorts all over Europe, including the big cities that RCI and II lack. I have never rented from them, but I understand they do rent out units as well. I visited the Hapimag resort in Budapest, bang on Castle Hill, and it was quite nice.
