Hi all! We purchased a resale platinum week floating at Marriott Shadow Ridge in Palm Springs back in 2010. It’s a 2-bedroom lock-off, and we’ve loved it! We’ve always traded it as a studio and 1-bedroom on Interval, and we’ve had great success—often even trading up to a 2- or 3-bedroom unit.

However, now that our kids are in elementary school and busy with sports, our travel flexibility is more limited. We ideally want to travel the last week of August, mid-October, New Year’s week, or spring break, but we’re finding it harder to get good matches.

A few questions for the group:

1️⃣
Is it just me, or is it getting harder to trade for prime weeks like New Year's and spring break?
2️⃣
Would we have better luck trading directly within Marriott vs. using Interval?
3️⃣
We deposited our 2026 week as a full 2-bedroom, hoping for better trade value—do you think this will help?
4️⃣
We’ve considered selling our timeshare and purchasing a week that aligns with when we can actually travel. That way, we could either use it every year or trade for something similar. Thoughts on this strategy? Also, how easy do you think it would be to sell our week?

Would love to hear any insights or advice from those who’ve been in a similar situation. Thanks in advance!

Yes, open inventory in II isn't as robust as in the past. You should definitely set up ongoing searches, especially with your Marriott preference. You will be at the front of the line for exchanges. II vaules unit size, so depositing a 2 bedroom to get a 2 bedroom will help, and since you have kids, just do it. Later when you aren't traveling with kids, you can lock it off and get multiple exchanges in one bedroom units, but for now I think the larger deposit is the best way to get what you want. Try to book and then deposit President's week for your exchange for the most trade power.

I just noticed that you mentioned trading within Marriott - is your unit enrolled in Abound? If so, then post in the Marriott forum to get Marriott-centric advice there.
