I have a 2 bdrm reservation for WKORVN in early June. If family members do not join us, I would like to lock off the studio side and bank the SOs for a reservation next year.

1) What is the latest I can lockoff before arrival? I know I need to cancel 61 days prior to arrival but does that apply to lockoffs? I know I need to bank before June 30.
2) Does my view prioritization change if I lock-off? I booked OF 12 months midnight and usually get what we ask for.
3) Are there any other gotchas to consider? I want to combine the WKORVN studio SOs with my remaining WKV SOs and bank them before the June 30 deadline for a stay in 2026.

I think it would technically be canceling and then rebooking as a 1BR. Unfortunately this means you’d lose your priority timestamp.

That is what I was afraid of. We may just keep the reservation to preserve the timestamp. We pay too much in MF to lose this priority. Not all is lost. We will invite other members of our extended family.

There was a Tugger who said they book a 1 bdrm and a Studio at midnight 1 year prior to avoid this issue. Lesson learned.

I’m wondering if you could rent out the studio side if you won’t need it? Could then use the dollars instead of SOs to book in 2026?

I like this idea but wouldn't this have the same issue of the timestamp loss when I call to lock it off?

You wouldn't call to lock it off. You would need to be there when the guest checks in. Ask the resort to split the folios and they also provide a credit card for their side of the unit. This is often done with two couples or families traveling together.

The problem with renting the studio side of a 2bdm without locking it off is that you are unlikely to find a renter who will agree to not receiving a confirmation in their name for the studio. That would mean that the renter couldn't even confirm the reservation and could show up and find out they have nothing.

We just checked in today and were told they would no longer allow a different credit card for the studio side that our guests are staying in next week while we are in the 1 bedroom side. We have always been able to do this before.

Are your stays the exact same 7 days, or is the studio only some of the 7 days?

They are exact. The reservation is for a 2 bedroom and our guests will be in the studio side for the entire week.

Hmm, that's disconcerting. We have a reservation at WKORV in a bit with the same situation.

As always before without any issues, we'd like our friends to be able to put down their own credit card at checkin and charge stuff back to their room if they want...

If I trust my friends enough, I like to just pay for everything to get the Bonvoy points and them just hand me cash. I've yet to have anyone skip out on not reimbursing us.

I was able to add a different credit card for the studio at Marriott KoOlina over New Years. It might be worth asking again.

This may have been me; I posted this a few months ago. We do exactly this, even though it's a total PITA. I miss the days when we could simply call the next morning and have them split the reservation...sigh.

That makes no sense. We checked into WKORVN in January for 3 weeks with our friends who were staying on the studio side and they happily took their cc at the front desk for incidentals and the room taxes when we all checked in together.

Perhaps try escalating it up to the front desk manager.

I would try another time with a different front desk person. Sometimes they are just lazy because it requires rekeying the rooms.

I just checked again and was told that they have new software that won’t accommodate 2 cards on the same reservatio. They suggested that I include comments about this on my next survey….
