Linking SPG and Marriott

Does anyone have any experience with linking Marriott and SPG? Do the names need to match exactly? My wife has a Marriott account. Do I need to open another rewards system with my name?

We're there problems with lost points in the transfer?

Thank you for any information about linking SPG and Marriott reward systems.
 
I linked them about a year ago. I followed their instructions and had absolutely no issues. I do believe that the names and address (?) had to match, so you just have to check the profiles on each site first and make sure that they are in synch.
 
Similar response as LisaRex - linked the two systems shortly after the announcement, followed the instructions, and had no trouble. I have yet to do anything more than that with the Marriott program, however.
 
If the SPG points are in your (Hokulanui's) name then they can't transfer back/forth to your wife's Marriott account with linking.
But Starwood will transfer for free, points between spouses' SPG accounts (takes up to 3-5 business days). Then she can transfer to Marriott account if she wishes for the 3X valuation. On the Marriott website it says they charge for the transfer between Marriott accounts, but I think someone on Marriott forum said they got it done n/c.
 
Thank you for the information. I was able to easily establish a link with Marriott Rewards, and transferred a few points for a trial, which immediately showed up in the new account. Transferred 1000, received 3,000!
