Haleakala Visitor Centers Closing Through Spring As Access Tightens

Visitors planning Haleakala this spring now face more headaches as park officials say to arrive 3 hours early for sunset. The constraints keep adding up.

We have only ever done sunrise, but we had always heard that Sunset was much easier. I guess easier is relative... I would hate to spend the time driving up there only to be turned away.

Love going through the daytime; sunrise is too darn cold; have to go there super early in the morning...
+ I love the beautiful drive up, at our own pace; beautiful drive, which we enjoy with board daylight rather than in the dark (for sunrise)...
+ love the Shifting Sands hike
+ Beautiful to see clouds roll in & out from the Mars-like landscape at Red Hill, all during daytime
+ hate the crowds/permits etc
So, daytime it is, for us ...

+1 Nothing could induce me to try to get there for sunrise! We also like to stop at the state park that is around halfway up and have a picnic lunch.
