My significant other insisted on purchasing points when he heard "lifetime platinum" even though I was shaking my head no no no no no....anyway...it's his money so he bought his status.
The situation is that I'm listed as the primary on our timeshare account.
I'm already lifetime platinum. He bought the status in April and I haven't seen his status change on his Bonvoy account.
Is that because I'm listed as primary?
Is it still the case that the status gets attached to the primary?

So...can you please help me out and tell me what I need to do to switch him to primary? or how to get the lifetime platinum status through points purchase attached to his Bonvoy account?
And when we make timeshare reservations, can I book under my Bonvoy number or change the reservation to my Bonvoy number? (just in case I can make titanium)

As joint owners you can ask MVC to change which of you receives the Bonvoy Elite level owner benefit.
However, you can only do this once a year.
It was the start of the year when we able to do it, for very similar reasons to you.

If he wanted to buy platinum status he should have just got the Amex Brilliant card. Comes with Platinum status for only $650/yr. (Less if you consider the other benefits that are also included.)

If the points are jointly owned you can select either owner to receive the status- but only one and you can only change it once a year. So if you updated it now. It will change in Jan/Feb 2024.

:hug thanks for the quick responses! I'll give MVC a call and get the status switched to him. He also wanted it because it can be passed down...he wants it to go to our eldest - :cool:daddy's little girl #1...she's the only one that expressed any interest in inheriting the timeshare. IMO it's a waste of money but it makes him happy and at this stage in our lives I'm ok with him "splurging" on himself.

Sales people like to call it Lifetime Platinum status but you don't automatically receive Lifetime Platinum status from owning the timeshare...you get Platinum status with Bonvoy each year that you still maintain MVS/Vistana ownership that qualifies for that status level benefit. Your SO would need to accumulate 10 years of Platinum status and 600 nights with Bonvoy before Lifetime Platinum status would be awarded by them. They are two separate companies so MVC can't confer this type of lifetime Bonvoy status itself. Conversely once you achieve that lifetime level with Bonvoy, your timeshare ownership no longer matters (unless you've upgraded it since then to qualify for Titanium status, which raises your annual status but for which Bonvoy is no longer granting lifetime status).

Yeah, but with the credit card you don't OWN anything. With deeded ownership, you get new points every year. Or at least that is what the salesperson tried to tell us the other day. DEEDED ownership not money down the toilet...
