Are there any of the timeshare/points/etc plans that allow you to use them for less than a week at a time? We like to long weekends for different places. Thanks,

Wyndham does -- yes, there is a "but".

Fri and Sat night stays cost more points for reserve than the other 5 individual nights of the week.

You have to pay extra fees - like more reservation transactions and for more Housekeeping Credits (still have to totally clean the unit whether you stay there 1 night or 7 nights).

Some booking of resorts & units are basicly a template OVER the old WEEKS systems - where part of the resort checkins on Friday and the other guests arrive on Saturday. Booking a weekend, might involve MOVING on Sat AM and having to checkin on Sat afternoon to another unit (and 2 housekeeping fees).

Always READ the "BUT" --- these timeshares are NOT really hotel rooms.

There are actually quite a few of them. Look in the Point System Discussions forum above, and start with the first Sticky at the top (FAQ and links to points-based systems).

RCI Points can be used for as little as a single night's stay. For that matter RCI Last Calls are priced for 7 nights, but at under $250, if you stay for 3 nights of the week, you approach el cheapo hotel rates. Trading Places, and VRI also have short stays.

Diamond Resort points can also be used for one night, but weekends cost more points.

I've been able to do that with DVC, Shell, Worldmark, HGVC and RCI points. Additional fees can add up quickly. Plus, most of the systems charge double points for weekend nights vs. weeknights. As mentioned above, there are times when paying for a full week is cheaper than paying for a weekend only.

Holiday Inn Vacation Club does, but most TS revert back to weeks upon sale, so if you want those points you have to buy a week and then "upgrade" it through HIVC.

You dont show where you live. If you live in the west... Wyndam Worldmark is a great program. As said in previous posts there are buts.

I live in northern Utah. Each year I will get one of the top resorts in Park City or Snowbird. I will spend at least 2 days and nights but then my kids will go up for a day or two. They are so close that when I worked I would go up and spend the night and go straight to work. I would usually get those resorts with ACs or in my case because I have too many timeshares (dont do that) one of the timeshares I wasnt using.

Check out tug rentals or RCI's extra vacations. SFX has good short term rental deals, too. If you can be flexible and "fly by the seat of your pants" there are real good deals and you wont need to spend all week to get the value.
