That legal product sounds to me nothing more than paying for a referral service upfront.

IMHO, there is no substitute for a dedicated family attorney who takes care of all your matters and you have built a relationship with over time.

The thought of outsourcing and commoditizing the handling of legal matters to anyone is just like opening up the phone book and picking a lawyer blindly and expecting for that person to give you the time of day just because you paid into a database of referrals is mind blowing.

Hello Angie's list for lawyers. Good luck with that.....

Coincidence ?

One of my FaceBook "friends" sent in a FaceBook entry recently boosting Legal Shield.

Is Legal Shield currently flogging its offerings via various internet sites in a coordinated way ?

Or is this just a coincidence ?

Many companies pay internet bloggers to post good reviews for products and services. Haven't we all seen the "Work from Home" on the internet and make $1000's dollars a month advertisements?

I prefer to research things myself and avoid lawyers unless absolutely necessary. The only time I ever hired one was when I had to sue my Step Mother (on behalf of my institutionalized Father) when she forged his signature and sold his house and kept the proceeds for herself. I lived in Missouri at the time and needed a lawyer in Florida. I found one by getting a referral from my employer's outside counsel. It worked out fine. I got the money for my Dad and the cost wasn't bad at all.

I think it is coincidence. I know for a fact that Legal Shield has been around for years. It's similar to Prepaid Legal, just a way to get inexpensive legal advice/representation.

The OP has one thing right: it is best to have a lawyer look over your timeshare contract before buying.

Why is this post still here

Legal Shield is sold via Network (Multi Level) Marketing (Pyramid)

If the OP gets any one to sign up he profits

That's advertising to me

it's just a name change from Pre-Paid Legal Network

http://behindmlm.com/companies/why-did-prepaid-legal-become-legal-shield/

http://www.ripoffreport.com/directory/Pre-paid-Legal.aspx (primarily disgruntled downliners)

Someone comes in and asks for site specific advice on selling and his post is deleted or neutered due to the zero tolerance on advertising, yet this promotional post for a multi-level marketing scam is allowed to stand.

My apologies

Re: all the above posters.

I apologize to all if my Op was in any way disruptive. TuG BBS is a community I want to be a part of because I see the value in it, and I definitely do not want to ruffle any feathers.

Although the company is what it is, I am no longer active with the company - if anyone tried getting the service from me, I will not be able to offer it to them- but in interest of disclosure i had to mention I was involved.

The purpose of my post was because I see story, after story, after story of people getting ripped off by scammers, sellers, and developers. And I think that if those people had just taken the time to get things reviewed, a lot could have avoided getting ripped off.

Some people are smart enough to research the internet, some can't even figure how to tie their shoe laces, and then there is everyone in between.

If nothing else, my main point in this post, Is have someone (whoever that is) that knows more than you, review things before you sign.

I edited the OP to try to remove as much info about the company as I could, as well as added to NOT contact me for any questions on how to buy, sign up or use the services offered by that company.

Hope that helps.

Talked to DW about this. She, a 30+ year attorney said that as far as legal insurance is concerned, the only one worth anything is provided for California Public Employees. She has not seen any others that were of any value at all. Pre-Paid Legal and all the others are simply MLM schemes and provide nothing more than dubious referral service which can be gotten free at every state's Bar Association website.

Other attorneys, feel free to chime in with their feelings when a prospective client calls or presents with one of these plans. I suspect it isn't supportive.

If the op had just said he used a lawyer to review his timeshare contract we would have no issue. Its always good advice to do your due diligence before signing anything and if you dont understand bring in an outside person to help you with the review

Suggesting a particular lawyer or service I dont think steps over the line

My only comment is that if you dont understand what you are signing without a lawyer, you probably shouldnt sign at all. This stuff is not rocket science. The contract is not the important thing in buying a timeshare beyond spelling out the legal description of the property, purchase price and settlement date...or I could say the contract is only there to get both parties to the closing table at the same time.

once the deal is done, the contract is done. Whats important then is the deed and the condo/timeshare declarations, rules and regulations, annual billing for fees, etc. Little of this will be spelled out in your purchase agreement or contract and it wont be reviewed by your lawyer...but you have to know this stuff

With apologies to Jims wife:...In my experience a lawyer review is there to protect you from yourself and to earn their fee. They almost always find something wrong. As a real estate agent and a sometimes seller of timeshares; I can tell you when a lawyer gets involved there is almost never a deal made..Their job is to find something wrong...So you decide. Buy a timeshare or buy a lawyer review. I dont think you can have both

I doubt your sincerity. The title of the OP was the advertisement for your company.

If you wanted to recommend to folks a legal review of timeshare contracts, that I think is appropriate.

But recommending a specific service as the title of a post is advertisement to me.
