We will be staying there for Thanksgiving week and was wondering about a section or unit we should request. We have a 4, 6 and 8 year old if that helps. Also, Could anyone suggest places to eat near Escondido (after Wild Animal Kingdom) as well as Carlsbad (after Legoland). Something not too fancy since we have the kids but something we wouldn't get back home. Thanks!!

Since this question has nothing to do with buying or selling, I'm moving it to the western US board

Not in Carlsbad, but nearby in Encinitas is La Especial Norte, an excellent Mexican seafood restaurant. Not expensive. Take I5 south to Leucadia Blvd. Head west and take Hwy 101 south. A short distance down on RHS. Alternatively, take 101 from Carlsbad. Norte is on RHS just past Leucadia Blvd. It's about a 10 minute drive.

I don't know the name of the building but I would ask 1st floor near a fishing pond. My kids (age between 2-5) loved 1st floor since you can walk right out to grass area and watch rabbits, squirrels, and birds. And you don't have to worry about people below you complaining about kids running around....

As a San Diego Native I agree with the prior post re: Norte. Good food. There is also Karl Strause (sp) right by lego land. It is a nice place .. closed on Sat for weddings though. Authintic fish and chips can be found on Carlsbad blvd just past tammarack ave.

Escondido is a different story. After wild animal park you may want to try Maccaronni (sp) grill located in the North County Fair (Local Mall) marking lot. also try Bertrelli's (sp)Pizza place. There are a few around.

I think this is the Harbor Fish Cafe, which, on Thursdays, has discounted prices on their fish and chips.

In Escondido:
Pizza:
Filippis Pizza Grotto Escondido
Killer Pizza From Mars or
Oggis Pizza
Mexican Food:
Anywhere, there are tons of little Mexican Food Joints all over San Diego

San Marcos has Restaurant Row

Let me know if you need any numbers or addresses.

We own in bldg 21, and the is some grass out back of the unit that the kids can play on without being on the golf course. I think 19 and 20 would also offer that. Be sure to ask for the bottom floor, so you can walk right out onto the grass from the patio. These bldgs are on Broadway Hill. I am assuming you are staying at the Welk Resort Villas, not the newer Villas on the Green.

The Broadway Hill rec. center is also where they have daily arts and crafts for the kids.

There is a costco in San Marcos for supplies, or a really nice Vons market just off the 15 freeway at El Norte.

I agree with the choice of the Karl Straus Brewry restaurant right by Legoland. We have gone there a few times after a day at Legoland, and I always have there phone number with me 760-431-2739 (still in my cell) so I can call ahead for a table before we leave the park.

I can email you a map of the Welk if you would like one, just email me.

Could you tell me where San Marcos is in relation to Escondido?

San Marcos is the town that borders Escondido.

It's between Escondido and Carlsbad. So if you are going to Legoland, you will drive through San Marcos. If you drive the shortest distance to legoland, you will drive right past Restaurant Row.

About 10 minutes drive from LW on the way to Carlsbad. It is west of Escondido on 78.
