There are smoking great deals to be had in these forums. Is there anyone that has done this?

How many occasions have you been able to look at last minute deal and pick up and go?
It takes a certain lifestyle of course. Being retired helps. Having a flexible job situation helps.
In theory since I WFH I can go anywhere in the US with a reliable broadband connection.
But in order to work productively I need at least 2 decent size monitors. But who wants to work on a vacation trip anyway?

If a flight in involved then that could be a deal breaker for some? Drive to destinations should be good depending on how
long the distance? Then there is the issue of pets. This takes some advanced planning if you don't have someone to take care of
Rex or Felix? Our current cat Emma is 15 yrs. She will be the last one of a long line of cats in my lifetime.

I would love to hear how y'all have leveraged these last minute deals?
My dream when I retire is to do these last minute trips as much as possible. We shall see if this ever pans out... When I retire?

Not yet but it's on my bucket list to be able to go on last minute vacations 😆

Even though we travel a lot, not much of it is booked last minute. We might make some changes last minute like upgrading to a larger room or even retrading into a different resort in the same area. Perhaps the one last minute travel we did was when someone offered a week at Vistana's Beach Club in the LMR forums. Worked out great. It was at Christmas, so the weather wasn't fantastic, but we were able to see the lights at the Eustace family's mansion on Hutchinson Island.

I see a lot of mention of last minute Hawaii available on ACs and such, but I suspect that takes a special kind of person to be able to book something like that on a whim and just go. We aren't about to partake in last minute travel that requires flights.

I don't do last-minute vacations. Rick always has a project he is doing, and he is not as flexible as he was even five years ago. No surprising him with a trip, and he wouldn't plan a trip at all.

TUG last minute deals - yes and the 2 were both in January / February of this year. Back to back weeks in different resorts in Mexico and completed with different TUG members

Both went super smooth and followed TUG recommended practices.

We have a few last minute vacations since we retired but only 1 was a timeshare (Last Call) stay. The first one we did was all DH's arranging. I went back to college in 1999-2000 and the day I graduated DH surprised me with a Last Call trip to Newport RI that he had booked for that Saturday (4 days later). We had a great time.

The next one didnt start out as a vacation. In June of 2013 our condo in St. Augustine FL was flooded by the lady who lived in the unit above us hiring a 'handyman' to replace her bathroom vanity. Insurance works differently in the US than in Canada so DH decided we needed to drive down to see for ourselves what needed to be done and get a contractor to make the necessary repairs. He gave me about 14 hours notice until we were going to be driving away. We couldnt find a timeshare stay close enough, so we got an efficiency motel room and used our day use privileges at our timeshare down the road. After we found and got the contractors started on the work we decided to stay a few days and have a bit of a vacation. That night our oldest DS phoned from Calgary where the city was flooding and his company had a few of the major restoration contracts (including the Saddledome to get dried out & cleaned before the Stampede 2 weeks later). He needed his work truck & trailer out there asap (he had flown out in a hurry) and asked how fast could we drive back to Toronto (from St. Augustine), get his truck and trailer then drive out to Calgary. We were there 6 days later.

A few years ago we were watching the Toronto Blue Jays game one evening when DH decided it would be fun to go to see them play in Philadelphia 2 days later. Neither of us had been there before and tickets to the Phillies games were cheaper than to the Jays home games. I got on the computer, booked us 4 nights in an extended stay motel and tickets to the first 2 games, we left in the car the next morning. We went to the games and did some sightseeing before driving back.

I keep looking at the LMR's on here and one day we will book one.

Got a last minute deal (couple of days to check in) for Cabo Azul this past January from a TUG member. Resort was nice and since I was staying on an owner's reservation, there was no resort fee.

I got one last minute rental request where I requested something last year in Surfside Beach, and this year Smugglers Notch had a Last Call for 4th of July and I grabbed that and enjoyed it quite a bit. I plan to try and do some more once my current family life crisis straightens out hopefully mid next year. It is hard to do many of the otherwise appealing Last Calls because of needing to drive ~2 days to get there or fly. I can't imagine the cost for a week or three out trip for flights wouldn't overwhelm Last Call savings on the stays. Also, not sure how much I'd want to regularly fly somewhere to stay only a week. I am building drive to locations that I'd be happy to grab on a last minute stay that I'll watch for around times of year I'd like to go and then might grab, however that also becomes more difficult slotting into my planned trips.

Not a TUG last call but I booked through one of the vacation clubs for a great nightly deal in Flagstaff - 3 weeks out.
Flights were no problem we are light players in the points game. Surprisingly I can't find a decent car rental price out of Phoenix.
Flagstaff in early November would not be everyone's cup of tea but I think we might like it.
Still trying to evaluate our timeshare options. We are semi nomadic and I the last call deals look like a good fit for us.

I did flagstaff three years ago in November and loved it
Hope you have a blast 💥
You got a great deal …. More $ to spend on other things
You’ll have fun 🤩

Our first week on a trip to Waikiki started with our room over looking construction of the pool deck a floor below us. It really sucked. We found a week at the Imperial Hawaiian on Tugs Last Minute Timeshare Rentals.

On II we found a last minute deal for a two bed New Orleans unit at the Quarter House for $800. We decided to go. At SEATAC we were sitting next to a lady and she asked if we were heading to NOLA to see the Rolling Stones. We were not but I decided to buy tickets and was able to buy them but couldn't see them without an app. When we checked in I downloaded the app. We ended up 50 ft from the front of the stage.

Occasionally we are asked to go on trips with others last minute. I've had opportunities from people on the forums to go to Cabo and stay at a really nice resort to be part of a Bisbee crew. I couldn't go because my grand daughter was due to arrive. Another time, a forum user asked if I wanted to head to New York and go to the Super Bowl. The Sea Hawks were playing and I really wanted to go but we were heading to Mexico. Not too long ago we had an opportunity to go to Aruba with a forum user I like but we were in the midst of the aftermath of a really sad dealio.

A last minute I really enjoyed was my grand son in law asked me if I wanted to go salmon fishing this weekend on Friday night. I woke left at 3:30 am and drove down to Drano Lake on Saturday morning. We caught and released so many salmon. This time of year many of the salmon are getting too dark to keep but there were plenty of nice fish in the mix. My great grand son is 5 and managed to reel in several and he actually hook a couple too. We limited out today and yesterday.
