Fern or someone who goes to Las Vegas, can you suggest a show or shows that we could take 9 year olds to. I will be going there on the 7th of April for spring break. We would like to take the kids to a show or 2. I have heard you write about Gordie Brown. Is that an adult show?
Thanks in advance.

I would take them to a Cirque show, either Mystere or O (haven't seen Love so can't comment on that one). They are pricey, but my kids have loved Cirque since they were really little.

I love Gordie Browns show, and though it's not an "adult" show, I am not sure a 9 yo would find it funny. He does a lot of impersonations of people that your child may not know.

Mac King does an afternoon magic show at Harrah's. Lots of stuff for kids. I could have done with out some of his "potty" humor, but kids like it.

There are also afternoon magic shows in other hotels as well.

Others may disagree with me (and probably will! :D ) but I don't think the LV strip is a place for kids. The huge billboards with half naked show girls and the constant barrage from people trying to hand out pornographic materials all along the sidewalk is difficult to explain to an 9 year old. Sure, kids are more sophisticated these days, but I think it sends the wrong message to impressionable young minds. I just think the LV strip is (and should be) an adult playground.

Well, I am here to give you moral support. I agree with what you have said. BTW, the huge billboards show girls (and boys) more than "half-naked." The nudity doesn't bother me but the suggestive poses aren't appropriate for children (or some adults for that matter). However, it is the pornographic "trading cards" and the magazine racks displayed at children's eye level that bother me most. People line the strip shoving cards of naked people--in suggestive poses--at you almost every step of the way. They don't discriminate. They try to hand them to DH while he is arm-in-arm with me! (Well, maybe after looking at me, they think he would appreciate some air-brushed young thing. or maybe they think I would.) In the morning, the cards are littered all over the sidewalks and in the bushes. You can't not see them. Anyway, your child will be exposed to these things if you take him to the strip. Prepare to have a nice chat.

Blue Man Group would be a fun choice.

I think at that age they would love Lance Burton.

There's one I forgot...Lance Burton does a great show and it's very family friendly.

He likes kids to participate, so when we went, families like ours were moved to the middle seating area seats that were still available. Our son was fortunate enough to be called on stage and Lance made dollar coins appear from all over his body! Of course he still keeps that coin souvenir. :)

Gordie Brown doesn't allow children to his show. It would not be funny for them anyway, I think.

Mac King is a good afternoon show, and as was mentioned, Lance Burton loves children.

I agree that Gordie Brown wouldn't be a good show for a 9 year old. There were two 19 yr old twins at the show we attended and it was pretty obvious to Gordie that they had no clue who many of his impersinations were. He did manage to work those girls into his show so I'm certain they had a great time.

Rick Thomas, who I think is now at the Orleans, is a GREAT show for kids and is inexpensive. It's also an afternoon show that might be better for kids. Lance Burton is also a great show for kids. The last time we saw him, he brought most of the kids from the audience up on stage. We'll see hime tomorrow night so I'll be able to post on if he still does that.

We've seen both "O" and Mystere and they were both good shows for kids but they are pretty much $100 tickets. That's maybe a little expensive to risk on a whether or not a 9 year old would like the show. I've seen kids both entertained and sleeping at the shows we've seen. Blue Man Group is a good show as well but, again, is expensive.

Excalibur has the Tournement of Kings show which is also GREAT for kids. It is along the lines of Medievil Times or Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede. Lot's of audience participation, food that is eaten with the hand (no flatware). And, after the show (or before) there's a big midway style arcade to entertain a 9 year old.

We saw Gordie when he was "Downtown Gordie Brown" at the GN, is there a reason children aren't allowed at the show now? I don't remember anything objectionable...unless you find an old guy like me laughing till he almost wets his pants objectionable!!! :D

Is the new show more adult oriented?

I agree though most people under 21 wouldn't get his impersonations.

I saw Gordie Brown last year and while I enjoyed it, I sure wouldn't want to take my 10 year old niece. The show was chock full of sexual innuendo and slang that probably would have been over her head, but she's a sharp cookie. I appreciate that Gordie has some restrictions that help us from wandering in with kids. I second what others have said about Lance Burton and the Tournament of Kings - both were a hit with the kids.

Gordie Brown

We just went to Gordie Brown last Tuesday, really enjoyed it. The tickets indicated that the age limit was 16. Frankly, the show was clean, a few innuendos, but nothing gross and no bad language, which was really nice. But I think you'd have to be 16 to appreciate it at all.

Not sure if it's still available but we got our Gordie Brown tickets half price through a Travelzoo deal. We were there on a Tuesday, granted, but were in the second row. It's a fairly intimate theatre so it wasn't too intense being that close.

Ron Lucus, a ventriloquist with a 3 PM afternoon show at the Aladdin might also be a good choice. I have not seen his show so I can't say how adult oriented it might be so, I could be wrong.

Ronn Lucas' puppets like to make veiled sex jokes. I wouldn't think he's good for kids. But he's hecka funny for adults.

I would recommend V The Variety Show at the Aladdin except for some innuendo by the host, mostly about how gay his outfit looks. The show is made up of variety acts which would not normally headline a show but grouped together are fun. It's also very easy to get 2-for-1 coupons for this show or 1/2 price tickets at Tix4Tonight.

BTW, they might enjoy The Fab Four show if they have ever heard of the Beatles. Most non-headliner shows are available mid-week at Tix4Tonight. BTW, for an additional fee, we bumped up our tickets to V to some sort of deluxe package with preferred seating. Since we paid 1/2 price for the tickets, it wasn't a bad choice.
