Great deal(s) through HGVC Points to stay at Las Palmeras with upgrade to 2-bedroom for me, wife, and 2 teen+ daughters. Like 1/3 of points compared to other HGVC locations and 2-bedrooms.

1) Is the deal great because Las Palmeras means you "get what you pay for?"

2)

3) Are we better off staying at a regular Hilton property (points or cheap reservations) that might get us better Disney benefits (the ones that are "official" hotels)? We're probably only doing 2 days worth of parks.

Thanks in advance!

I have not stayed at Los Palmeras, but believe that was a hotel conversion and i have heard the rooms are smaller than typical for HGVC.

I stayed at the Hilton Bonnet Creek a few years back and though it had a fantastic pool, with a lazy river. Its been too long since i stayed at any of the other on-site WDW hotels to comment on those.

To me the main perk of official hotels was reserving the fast passes at 60 days prior to arrival. Disney is not currently doing fast passes. I’m not sure what the other perks might be.

Not a whole lot right now. Proximity to parks and being immersed in the "magic," for however much the latter may mean to one :)

(We own DVC, so it does matter to us...)

Cheers.

Do you have transportation to and from the parks (i.e. your own car or rental car)? If so, then I would take the Las Palmeras deal. You'll appreciate the extra space at the end of the day. As mentioned, FastPasses don't exist right now, so you wouldn't gain much at a Disney or Disney Springs hotel.

Considering car rental vs Uber/Lyft. Spreading out would be nice.

If I’m staying as a HGVC points user do I pay parking fees? (we are super-new owners and have yet to actually use our points!)

The deal is because:

4. HGV has excess vacancies at the Orlando and Vegas locations included in the offer.

Do you already have park reservations? Tickets? An Annual Pass? At the moment, the principle advantage of staying 'on property' isn't fastpasses (since there aren't any) but getting to go into the parks at all. Weekdays usually have availability in at least one park but weekends are often booked solid. If you stay 'on property' this issue is lessened...but not eliminated. I've read a number of, "I'm staying at Poly and can't go to MK?!?" kind of posts.

That said, the only HGVC Orlando property in which we've stayed was Tuscany Village...which was quite nice.

Ive stayed at Las Palmeras. It‘s nice but smaller than the other properties. The pool isn’t a monster pool but great for a swim after a long day.

Due to its hotel roots, it has a full service restaurant and bar in the lobby which I enjoyed.

It is closer to Universal if you plan a trip there.

No reservations yet but everything's available when wer are looking so far (Oct. 8-11). We'd just get 2-day tickets. Like you said, with no fast passes or even lodging/meals deals like have been offered in the past, I think staying on property advantages are mitigated. The park hours seem to be shorter as well (9am - 6pm for MK, 10a - 7p for Hollywood), so I wouldn't see the built-in advantage of leaving the park during the day to go "home." Maybe this is the time to stay out of the Disney hotel system?

We'd save about 1100 HGVC points staying at Las Palmeras for 4 nights in a 2-BR as opposed to Sea World, Parc Soleil or Tuscany. I'm not sure if it's worth trying the other resorts instead. Las Palmeras seems to have most of what we'd want.
