So we're off to the islands in a little over a week on Hawaiian Airlines via Oakland. Does anyone know if there's a way to plug in your laptop on the plane? I've heard that some planes have ports, but is there a special adapter or does your regular power work?

Yes, many planes have EmPower ports, although often only in first/business class sections. You normally need a special adapter, which you can buy inexpensively at Radio Shack or any airport technology store.

However, the 767s that Hawaiian uses for your route are not equipped with seat power outlets.

...or an extra battery for your laptop.

I have a new Dell with a battery that gives me about six hours of use, even more if I use the laptop's low-power feature for playing DVDs.
