We’re in a 2 bedroom penthouse, 2473 to be exact. The elevator noise is relentless, 24/7. We’re not right next to them and I don’t know how many rooms have this problem, but sleep requires earplugs *and* Ativan. A great place to stay but I’m never coming back.

I didn't think there was a unit XX73. I thought the highest unit number was XXX72. But yes there is a XX72 that is right behind the elevator. It is a lockoff unit.

That is the worst of the 2 BR Penthouse units, for noise and for view. That and room XX71 have long been discussed here on TUG.

Here is the room locations...

Pretty sure I will never book a penthouse unit at Lagoon Tower due this issue.

We stayed last time in LT room 2470/71. The master bedroom for 2470 has to be the loudest elevator noise room. It is located right above the elevator's relays. IMO, this room shouldn't even be rented. It has caused me to rethink my next trip to HI but I will probably go to the BI anyways.

I’m currently in 64. Great view and no noise other than kids screaming up and down the hall. I’m a Lagoon Tower owner so maybe that’s why I didn’t get elevator.

Being an owner in the Lagoon Tower helps as well as being Elite, Elite Plus, or Elite Premier.

I've stayed in the studio adjacent to the elevators many times, but the elevator noise never bothered me.

Hi Buz Glad you have no issues and , for what it’s worth, we’re leaving tomorrow @ 10:am. Nothing temping in the fridge but unopened Vanilla ice cream and pre-fab mai tai bottle. Yours if you want to come by between 9:30 & 10:00.
I’m not a Lagoon Tower owner and nabbed this last minute.

I’m leaving today also. Thank you for the offer. After your post I looked at the elevator and the room next to it. 2471.

The upside is everyone here said this week’s weather is as good as it gets in quite a while. Our timing was perfect.

We purchased a two bedroom penthouse in the Lagoon Tower the first year they marketed them. Big mistake! Should have purchased a two bedroom ocean front. When we finally had a chance to book a Diamond Head view penthouse it was a nightmare for our friends staying in the second bedroom. Every time the elevator was used, they heard it. That did it for us. We sold the unit after that stay So being an owner or non owner has no bearing.

We have stayed in a Studio adjacent to the elevators for more than 1000 nights and it never bothered us. Notice I said a studio, one of the XX71 Studios. There are 22 XX71 studios that are adjacent to the elevator. Those from floors 3-23 get a very little noise and it is totally tolerable. The elevator is also adjacent to dinning room table so you are usually up listening to the television with alot of street noise when near that wall. However, the Penthouse 2471 Studio which is adjaent to the elevator has a totally different layout and the bed is right next to the elevator wall. It is also much smaller than the 3-23 XX71 studios. We would never stay in that studio again.

The conversation is about staying on the penthouse floor where the motors are located, not staying near an elevator.

We've stayed in that 3 bdrm. The master bedroom elevator noise is intolerable. That is the suite they designate for RCI trades. That's how we traded for it even though we are HGVC owners. Did you trade via RCI for this? or was the Penthouse floor completely full with HGVC owners?

There have been several threads on TUG to avoid that room. (or at least book it as a 3 bdrm and only use 2 bdrms not the Master.) The Penthouse layout is terrific and the corner views are great from this room. You can see Diamondhead and Ala Moana park.

Have been in that 3br penthouse twice as an HGVC booking and never on a RCI trade.

HGVC might designate it as for RCI trades but not always. I have gotten 4th floor OF quiet a few times. Even booked for a week a 2br penthouse and 2br OF to watch the fireworks. Figure I will have a good chance of watching the Friday fireworks as there is a 50/50 chance of getting a 2br facing Diamondhead. And as long as the OF is higher than 5th floor or higher will be able to see fireworks. Imagine my surprise when I was assigned the 4th floor OF and the penthouse facing EWA. Out of all the 2br OF units, I get one of the two that have views blocked by palm trees.

If we had a lottery I would have gone and bought a lottery ticket.

@frank808 Next time you are in Vegas, you need to go gambling because you have the Midas touch!

On the positive side, we watched July 4 fireworks at Ala Moana park from that room. Best seats in the house.

We had a studio next to that elevator. My husband complained and even recorded the noise at 2am. They moved us. It needs a repair. The type of repair it needs, the vibration gets worse as it goes higher in the building. I’m surprised they still haven’t fixed it. I have learned from a childhood friend who had a cuckoo clock that I can learn to sleep through noise after a couple of days. Even the midnight cuckoo racket.

You need to try the 2BR Penthouse with the master above the elevation. In this room, you get to listen to all of the elevator relays. I just don't understand how that room is even available unless the noise is fixed. But based upon this and previous threads concerning LT noise, I will not book there unless 2BR OF.

My wife would kill me if we got a room with this much noise, think i will just skip the penthouse rooms and stick with regular OF rooms..

IMHO...the Penthouse units are fantastic except you roll the dice in getting the bad apple unit. Perhaps the only way to avoid this is to own a Lagoon penthouse unit and that way your are prioritized for better placement. However, better odds with an OF or OV below.

Every 5 seconds "click, click, click" then you hear the whining of the motor or cables. Great background noise to sleep to

I believe Lagoon tower was originally built as apartments. I wonder if the noisy rooms were part of a someone's full time residence?

Of course I would imagine elevators would not be quite as busy back then.

Don Ho used to live there.

Don Ho used to live there.

Ah yes, think i read that before. If he had the whole top floor, guessing his bedroom wasn't right next to the elevator...

I been on the penthouse floors many times, at 3 times in the bad units (studio next to elevator, penthouse unit with master above the pulley system [1st stay ever in HGVC for our 10 years anniversary, needless to say, worst stay ever and my wife wasn't happy with me. Thankfully she is over it, lol], etc...).

But I also been in 3 times in the most awesome unit, Room 2466 3-bedroom penthouse oceanfront corner unit that is just absolutely stunning and amazing. So, I keep on glutton for punishment and taking my chances. So, you all need to stop booking the penthouse floor due the possible elevator noise problem, so that it sits empty, and there no reason they don't assign me Unit 2466 or 2467 :).

All joking aside, I don't book 2-bedroom penthouse units anymore, will only do oceanfront premier rooms. I might take a chance on 3-bedroom penthouse still since it's 1 really bad unit out of like 5 possible units, and just hope and pray I don't get yelled at by my wife again! So far, it's been smiles on getting unit 2466.

Great3
