Ko'olina studio occupancy question

We booked a studio (max occupancy of 4) at Ko'olina Beach Club in December. On my confirmation it says "Studio or Hotel type" as my room selection.

My question is, when looking at a third party site such as Trip Advisor or Expedia, I'm finding that a lot of the basic rooms/studios are actually listing a max occupancy of 2 adults. Are these not the same type of room that we can expect? And why is the occupancy different?

Secondly, is it too far fetched to try and ask for an upgrade when checking in or is that not really done when using II? We usually at least try (and have been successful) with all of our other travels however this will be our first time using our exchange. I just don't want to look like an idiot when checking in. :)

TIA

1. The studio sleeps 4 -- 2 on the king bed and 2 on the pull out sofa. I can't speak to why the occupancy stated is different on the website, but it is the same type of room that you will get. The studio is like a hotel room with a small kitchen.

2. You have a slim chance of a non-paid upgrade. No harm in asking, but the one of the reasons why they will not upgrade you even if space is available is that they want the additional revenue opportunity to upgrade other guests. You may also get an upgrade if the unit type you were sold is not available (e.g., maintenance issue, etc.)

Good luck!

If you booked it for a date in December prior to Christmas, I'd just make sure to purchase e-plus. There is a pretty good likelihood that you will find an upgrade to a 1br if you are diligent and patient.

I agree. Getting a last minute retrade is a great way to get a larger unit. Even if you end up having to pay a new full exchange fee to do so. Though with EPlus it would cut that cost.

The studios at Ko Olina are smaller than at many other MVCI resorts. I would never try to put more than 2 adults in a Ko Olina studio.

My husband and I just got back from using a Ko'Olina studio earlier this month and, I agree, unless they are small children, it will be very crowded putting 4 people in the studio.

Yes! I did just this. Have been watching and checking frequently. Our plan was to either book a second studio for the same dates or try to exchange for a larger one to give us more space. Im hoping since we have until December it will give us plenty of time/opportunities to potentially upgrade.

But with everyones opinions/experiences with the studios being VERY small, I'm already starting to stress. :(

Thank you everyone for your input! Much appreciated!

What are your dates? I saw a dec 13 checkin 1br last night.

I believe the E+ trade you refer to is the ability to trade the trade for another trade after the fact…..

This is an option now available thru Interval International.

What?? So frustrating!! I tried all night to check and was getting login errors. Good ole Shell Vacation Club seems to be an ongoing issue with logging in. So frustrating.

We are wanting pretty much any week around Christmas. Right now I have a studio reserved for Dec 12-19th. But we are flexible.

Thanks for the heads up!

It seems that you are using a non Marriott to trade in? I know others have more experience with this, but I think Greg has mentioned before that he rarely if ever sees units larger than a studio at Ko'Olina with his Worldmark points.

Good catch, sorry for getting your hopes up idontknow, I had assumed you had Marriott preference since you scored the trade almost a year out. Looks like you might have to wait until flex to up-size.

Poop. Thanks anyway. Looks like I'm better off trying to book a second studio. There was one available the other day but it was for Dec 14-21 and our current reservation is the 12-19. Almost there. :)

Appreciate the help everyone.

I was able to book a second studio this morning so we are good to go!

Thanks again for the help.

My confirmation for Ko'olina says Studio, Queen Bed + full sofa sleeper, however when I look on Marriott.com the studios show King bed. Are there different size beds in the studios?

Thx

I believe there are some units that only have a queen in the lock off and others with a king. Or they at least used to. I think they were switching out for kings in all of them as they go through the refurbishment cycle. II probably still has the old room information data. Someone else will need to this though.
