Does anyone know what type of vehicles Alamo uses for their full size autos & Mid size SUV's on the Big Island? I have a reservation for each type and need to pick just one. Thanks.

I usually rent their standard SUV which has always been a Chevy Trailblazer. It provides plenty of room for 4-5 people plus lots of luggage. I tend to do a lot of hauling and the size is great for that. I once rented a mid-size SUV on Maui and was very disappointed in the size - it was what I would call an economy-size SUV ;)

According to the NWA worldvacations website, a full size car is a Pontiac Grand Prix and a mid-size SUV is a Chevy Equinox for Alamo.

It shows on the website which kind they rent. http://www.alamo.com/ Keep two rez. open and choose one when you get there. You won't have to pay for two.

Their website says "or similar" and what they show isn't always what they have. Alamo is notorious for that! We got an Chevy HR2 or something like that for a fullsize, which was like a beefed up PT Cruiser . . . and a gas guzzler. I had hoped for a Chevy Malibu which was what our reservation said was a "standard" (full size) car.

jUST CAME BACK FROM kONA....HAD A FULL SIZE BOOKED. CHECKED IN AND GOT A MALIBU HAD A GRAND PRIX RESERVED. E-MAILED ALAMO AND HAD A REDUCTION IN FEES. WHEN I CHECKED IN THEY HAD GRAND PRIX, BUICK LACROSS AND IMPALAS AVAILABLE. TRIED TO PUSH A MID SIZED SUV "SPECIAL" FOR $21/DA EXTRA. COMPLAINING VIA E-MAIL DOES HELP!! :hysterical:
