Looking to book at this location can someone advise the difference between the standard plus and premier. I assume it’s just the floor?

It's just the floor. On my opinion not worth the extra points for a higher floor since no teal views to be gained.

We have booked both ground floor and top floor rooms at Kohala Suites and Kings Land, in general we prefer the ground floor units. The lanai's open up on to the grass which makes things feel much larger. If you like to BBQ it usually just a short walk out the slider and across the grass to the grill. With the premium rooms, you have go down down the stairs for two floors, then around the building to find the grill..

That said I also enjoy the views of the golf course and lava fields from the higher floors...

Only the Floor.

+1. Ground floor FTW, especially with kids!

This is my least favorite of the Waikoloa area resorts. If you are all about the pool complex, stay at Kings' Land. If you are all about the room size and lanai space, then stay at Bay Club.

The advantage to Kohala is that it is fewer points than Kings' Land, but still gets full privileges for the Hilton. So it does represent something of a middle ground between the other two, even if the rooms are a bit smaller than Kings' Land.

We are also first floor people in Waikoloa (bu nowhere else). As mentioned, the lanais extend right and the walk to the grills is easy.

Cheers.

Some Phase 2 and 3 units at Kings' Land are the same point value as Kohala. I get pool access at Kings' Land with my Elite status, so that does not bother me, besides I am not a big pool user while in Hawaii.

But I do agree it is a middle ground option if pool access at hilton is important.

I always thought standard, plus, premier was simply floors 1, 2, 3, respectively. But last summer I did a deep dive into the resort info someone had shared on Kohala here a long time ago, and this is not exactly the full explanation.

The standard units are always in buildings #3 and #4 (the two buildings that back to Waikoloa Beach Drive) and they can be on any floor. There are no plus or premier units in these buildings.

The plus units are always in buildings #1, #2, #5, and #6 (the four buildings that back to the golf course) and they are all of the ground floor units and the interior (non end) units of the second floor.

The premier units are always in buildings #1, #2, #5, and #6 (the four buildings that back to the golf course) and they are all of the third floor and the end units of the second floor.

That being said, my favorite stay I've ever had at Kohala was in a "plus" ground floor end unit in building #6 at the very end of the entire property (this is either unit #1911 or #1918). The lanai is larger and not walled off on one side (pictures below)...

I stayed at bay club in sept. It was nice resort we were on the third floor overlooking the golf course. If you’re on the ground floor as others have stated easier access to the bbq. If you stay at bay club you will not have access to the Hilton pools. Well you can for $100 something a day. Staying at kohala you will have access to the pools without the fee. I asked about why that was since when you check in at kohala to stay at bay club. They share the same Checkin. I couldn’t get a straight answer but something do the way the club was setup it’s not included.

The lagoon "pool" at HWV is pretty cool. And being able to park for free and get a towel is nice for snorkeling.

Cheers.
