On Labor Day, we are picking up our two new Birman kitties in Southern California. I have only met them on Facetime but they are gorgeous kittens. One is a Seal Point and the other is a Lilac Point. Birman breeders have a tradition of naming all the cats born in a specific year with a name starting with the same letter. 2021 is the letter S. The breeder named our cats Sushi and Serena. Nice names but we wanted to pick our own names. We are re-naming them Shakira Snowball aka Snowy and Samantha Star aka Starry. Ironically, we happen to have a 10 year old orange tabby named Sunny. I am renaming her Sunisa Sunshine aka Sunny.
Birmans mature slowly and their full colors show up when they are about two years old. They are fluffy cats known to be friendly and family oriented. More people are familiar with Ragdolls. Birman personalities and appearance are a lot like Ragdolls but I chose Birmans because they are smaller and their coat does not mat as much. We used to have a Maine Coon. His personality was wonderful. He was a big cat and his coat was always matted. Once a year, we took him for a lion cut.
