Looking for suggestions for quirky (not fancy) places to eat on Kauai. Think "The Gazebo" on Maui, more so than "Mama's fish house". We are visiting for the first time in late October. Six nights in Princeville and 4 nights in Poipu. (Wanted to split even, but availability didn't work out)

Considering a Na Pali coastal boat trip(helicopters not on my bucket list), tubing the irrigation canals and SCUBA. I have the Shaka guide app so planning on following those trips as well.

Any other suggestions?

After scuba we would eat at Da Crack. It's Mexican-Hawaiian type food close to Sea Sport Divers.

We love Uncle D's in Lihue (really good BBQ - we love the brisket) but he has the weirdest hours. Just check his website before you want to go. His shop has a great selection of craft beers, as well as a ton of disc golf equipment. It is definitely quirky.

We always go to Mark's Place in Lihue. Located in an Industrial Park a couple of blocks from Costco. Limited lunch hours Monday-Friday. No dine in but they do have picnic tables in the shade. Great prices and huge portions.

We like Keoki's Paradise but it's associated with Duke's, and the price is quite high, even for lunch. Didn't use to be. We like the setting. Fish and chips are good.

Puka Dog, I think it's called, is our DIL's dad's favorite hot dog spot.

Kalapaki Beach Hut is closed permanently. We used to really enjoy it. Kind of a rickety building and was next to Marriott in Lihue.

We saw this article in the Hawaiian Airlines magazine on the way over to Kauai, then stopped in and enjoyed it on the way to Waimea Canyon. Pretty good tasting pizza, and friendly service:

In Poipu, we like going to Brennecke's Beach Broiler for lunch. It's on the 2nd floor so if you're close to the window, you can enjoy the view of the beach park and the ocean. On the first floor, Brennecke's Deli makes some great sandwiches. You can take them across the street and enjoy them in the beach park. The deli is also the latest location for Puka Dogs, but you may have to wait in line for them.

Another good place for lunch is Little Fish Coffee on Poipu Road. They have bowls, bagels, and sandwiches. You may have to wait in line there too.

I am pretty sure the young man pizza maker referred to in the article above sometimes sells his pizza out of a food truck parked in Lawai Beach Resort back parking lot.

Could be. We went to his storefront location referenced in the article though.

We like the Kilauea Fish Market for a relatively inexpensive meal. I’ve also never had a bad meal at Java Kai, but wouldn’t necessarily call it quirky. The Living Foods restaurant in Kukui’ula is one of our favourites as well.

We always visit Sueoka's Snack Shop on the side of Sueoka's Market in Koloa Some of the best LocoMoco on Kauai. Also like Pat's Taqueria. It is either by Hanalei Pier or in the Ching Young Village Shopping Center.

LocoMoco is my must have dish while in Hawaii.
