I searched the forum to info as to everyone's favorite luau in Kauai, and couldn't find any newer recommenations.

I'm taking two girlfriends who have never been to Hawaii and even though I have done several across the islands, we will only be on Kauai, and am wondering what would be the best place to take them for the whole package experience.

So here is the question -Which luau in Kauai? - weigh in on your favorite and why.

Smith's Luau

I can't compare to others on the island, however, I have been to the Smith Family Luau several times. The setting for the luau is great. The luau is in a pavillion, then the crowd moves to an amphitheatre for the evening show. And, the gardens are so beautiful. You may tour the gardens prior to the luau. Touring is done by walking around or they provide a riding tour on a little trolly they run. The food was about as good as you get at a luau. The entertainment was very good. And, the Smith family and their employees were so nice and accommodating.

Here is some info. in the old threads: Kauai Luaus

I'm not sure there's a real traditional laua on Kauai. We went to smiths and, while it was recommended as the most traditional laua on Kauai, it sort of had the feeling of a huge family reunion in a pavilion with a buffet line. I wasn't a big fan of the amphitheater and thought the seats were great back killers. I honestly couldn't wait for it to be over. I hate metal bleacher style seating.

The other the conceirge recommend were described as Cirque Du Soliel meets the laua. If it was just my wife and I, we probably would have done one of those. We had a first timer with us so we opted for the more "traditional" laua.

I will say that Smiths has a lovely garden and nice setting outside of the pavilion. If you choose Smiths I'd book it through the conceirge with Marriott. The pavilion had general seating and reserved seating. Marriott had a nice table up by the stage where the entertainers sang during dinner. That sure beat the run and grab seating. You still need to walk into the pavilion, find the Marriott table and claim your seats.

We've done three diferent Luau's on Kauai over the years.
Our favorite has been the one at the Sheraton, called Surf to Sunset.
Good food, good drinks. Served the entire time, unlike Smith's.

The outdoor setting next to the beach is incredible. We did pay extra for the Golden Circle and it was well worth it.

My drawback to the Smith's Luau was the changing of locations to the amphitheater for the show. It was nice and relaxing under the dining pavilion, plus you had cocktails. After dinner cocktails were discontinued and you had to head over to the amphtheater to watch the show. And as posted above, the seats are very uncomfortable.
