Kauai Car Rental Advice

Booked cheapest Costco car for 2 weeks (December 2024) but price seems high. I will keep checking Costco Travel for lower rates in next few months, but am wondering which agencies you might recommend - As far as decent price & successful drop off/pick up at LIH? Read the fine print on NU Car. We had to pay insurance that they called extra protection because our personal auto policy wasn't through a company that they approved of. Our rental was in Charlotte, NC, and it could have been that specific branch. I guess they are independently owned and operated.

If you work for or retired from a large corporation, see if you can use their corporate code with a national agency. I get corporate rates through National that are about 1/2 the best rate anywhere else.
 
I check multiple places for car rentals for Hawaii. Autoslash.com , Costco travel, Discount Hawaii car rental, Hawaii car rental are worth a look for price but I have better luck and service with Avis & Hertz.

There is a whole thread about Nu on the TripAdviser Maui forum. Bottom line is, don't rent from them.
 
I used Costco rental too? What was pricey to you? I got it about 400-500 per week on Kauai and Oahu in August and September

Cost more but great service.

I have been tracking Maui rental for April on AutoSlash and am down to $547 for two weeks in a midsize SUV ( prepaid thru Autoslash)
