We are going to be there for 2 weeks in mid-Feb! Any advice? I have already requested an ocean view (the lady told me it wasn't likely for an RCI owner), so I asked for first floor lagoon view (I have kids so first floor will be best) if the oceanview wasn't available.

Is the hotel pool next door still free?

Yes - the pools are free and there are several very nice pools and a pool slide.

There are also restaurants, bars, entertainment, and a mini-mart next door, but they are not cheap. We like to grocery shop and eat in Kapa'a which is about 10 min away. Get a Safeway Club card for good savings at the Safeway in Kapa'a. You can google it, print it out at home, fill it out, and present it at the register when you check out.

Have you been to Kauai before?

If not, put these searches in your google search box:

"kauai restaurants"site:tugbbs.com
"kauai activities"site:tugbbs.com
"kauai beach villas"site:tugbbs.com

Thanks Denise!
We have been to Kauai once, 7 years ago. We stayed at the Marriott beach club.

Just got back from KBV last night. We were in unit C7, D building would be the best lagoon view, C is good as well. C7 is a handicapped unit, great access to the pool, directly across to the hotel.

We had a great stay.

Only hiccup was when we checked in I specifically confirmed we were in the same unit for two weeks. We would have been willing to take a different unit but did not want to move and needed a handicapped shower for two weeks. On the day before the end of our first week, we were phoned that we would have to move the following day. Some polite pushback resulted in them making other arrangements and we stayed put but I was very, VERY happy I had specifically confirmed we would not have to move. Just a suggestion.

It was our first trip to Kauai and we really enjoyed the fact we were centrally located.

I traded in a few years ago and got a 2 bedroom ocean front unit on the ground floor. Keep your fingers crossed, it is possible!

Did you like being on the ground floor, or were you wishing you were on a higher floor.

We just recently purchased at this resort and are going to make reservations here next week for 2013 and have mixed emotiions about ground floor vs. second or third.

I'm not Greg but can answer that question from our perspective as we were on the first floor. When we wanted to access the pool, we just walked out the patio door and across the lawn.

We enjoyed it. Can't keep your windows open at night but the patios on the first floor have no railings so it kind of "expanded" our space out onto the lawn. Air conditioning in both bedrooms which made for comfortable sleeping so not an issue.

Only thing is keep the screen door closed. We had to chase birds out of our unit a few times!!

As an Owner at KBV, I like the upper floor units, at least in the oceanview buildings. That little extra height makes the view just that much better. In the lagoon view buildings, it would make more sense to be on the ground floors to do as Bev said - expand the living area to the outdoors, especially if you have kids.

There is a berm between the first floor and the beach, so you definitely want to be on the 3rd floor.
