I have a couple of question I hope someone can answer.

Does Marriott Kauai Beach Club generally honor the view code received in an Interval Exchange?

If I accept a Vistana to Marriott exchange, do I automatically receive a free retrade to another Marriott / Vistana since we do not pay a fee Marriott to Marriott or do I need to purchase E-Plus? I would like to have flexibility to change to a larger room, better resort or better view without paying a fee.

If you get $0 exchanges using an enrolled week, then you get retrades for $0 too. We did this, but Marriott to Marriott. We had an initial trade into a 1BR but later retraded into a 2BR.

As dioxide said it is not that you get a “free retrade”, it’s that your exchange fee is $0
When you retrade you pay a new exchange fee which is $0

I've exchanged into MKW five times, and every single time the view code was honoured.

We just returned from MKW last night and our code was honored. We received an email a few weeks in advance asking our floor preference and we said "middle". We were assigned floor 7 and it was perfect. When we checked in the agent said exchangers usually were assigned a "garden view", but in looking at the layout it seems all of the MKW units are ocean front. I meant all week to ask where the garden view units were but never did. We had done an II MVC internal exchange from our DS unit, but I think they viewed us as just an II exchange.

When you say “MVC internal exchange”, what do you mean? Did you use Abound Club Points or Interval International?

Interval. "Internal exchange" may not be the correct term, but we used the Marriott preference within II. We do this almost every trip and proudly announce at check in that we are MVC owners and did an "internal exchange" through II. It always seems like they just consider us an II exchange.

It is just an II exchange.
The in brand priority helps you get the exchange, that’s all.
Once you use another company (II) it’s “external”.

Glad you enjoyed the unit you received.
My experience was they honored the view on the exchange also.

MVC differentiate between the internal weeks exchange process within II (Priority) and external exchange.

I was also surprised to be charged the Hawaii tax. $202 for the week.
You must have had a 1BR/2BA unit? These occupancy taxes are across the board at all Hawaii timeshares. Though the amount varies depending on resort and unit size.

I just didn't know. We have done probably a hundred exchanges over the last 30 years and this is the first time we have been charged a tax.

Is it the first time you've exchanged into Hawaii? Ever exchanged into Aruba?

HI just imposed the same basic tax on cruise ships except it's worse since it's 11% and cruises cover food and other items as well. Expect to see the NCL ship to no longer be stationed there within the next year or 2 and a lot less cruise stops in HI going forward if this stands.

Other locations also charge taxes like Aruba.

Interesting. Not a huge deal in the scheme of things, I guess. So an owner just using their week in Hawaii also pays the tax?
Yes, anyone staying on a timeshare occupancy type stay pays this tax. It is calculated based on 10.25% of 50% of the maintenance fee (Maui has an additional 3% on 50% of the maintenance fee). The calculation will go up on January 1, 2026 to 11% of 50% of the maintenance fee. If you book or pay cash rates there is a different calculation of 10.25% of the room rate.

We were confirmed into a 2BR OF unit and that is what they gave us. Looking at all the different unit types and configurations, I can see how it would be difficult for them to mix things up.
