I am trying to get two nights at this hotel in April or May 2010 using points. I used the alternative date finder feature on the Marriott web site to search for anything available in all of April or May and came up with nothing. Then just to see if the feature was working I looked at all of Jan, Feb an March which would hardly be popular times to vacation on Capri. Not a single night showed up. Any idea of what is going on here? I thought that there were no more black out dates

This property seems to be extremely difficult to get a reservation using points. I used points to get a June reservation in Capri, but only after using a Platinum reservation representative. This was 2 years ago. Marriott told me that Capri "marches to the beat of a different drummer". I would try to call in for this reservation. Good luck.

The property is in a beautiful location just off the piazza. It is small, but the service and staff were superior. It is worth the extra effort to try to get this reservation.

I was also looking for next July 2010. The manager emailed me back stating that the hotel is still in negoations to renew the contract with Marriott. They will not know for a few months. let me know if you hear anything

The Marriott on Capri isn't open year round. I'm not sure when they re-open, it might be April. This would explain why you can't find availablity for Jan., Feb. & March. I've never stayed there but have made rewards reservations hoping to go. My experience is that there seems to be very limited availablity on MR points.

You also have to keep checking online. I know someone who was able to get 5 days for last week of august this year, and they started looking just two months in advance. Maybe it was just luck. It's tough to get nights there.

I would like to stay there for a night but I am not willing to spend too much time trying to get a night there. I think we will use the Renassance in Naples as our base. It is supposed to be within walking distance of the dock where all the boats leave for Capri, Sorrento etc. That hotel has lots of availability.

We got a week there last year in August using points. Their inventory is loaded on different days than other Marriott's. It seems like it opened up on a Wednesday or Thursday morning around 9:00. It may be that they are not releasing anything until they finalize things with Marriott. If you can get a room there I would recommend it. The wonderful thing about Capri is being there in the evenings after the crowds leave. If we had just gone over for the day, I'm not sure we would have enjoyed it that much. We used it as a base and took the ferries back over to the Amalfi coast.

Naples

We managed to get 4 nights in April of this year, but I did go through the Platinum service #. The hotel is really nice, but it was pretty isolated, and to get on/off the island was about a $20-$25 ferry ride each way per person. So if you want to go to Pompeii, or other places around the Almafi Coast, then Naples might be better or you'll be paying a lot of $$ just to get off the island. The hike up to Tiberius' palace and the Blue Grotto are pretty "tourist", but worth it.

Be careful in Naples though. All the books warned about it, and my wife and I almost got pick-pocketed there. We were on a bus and I felt somebody try to grab my wallet from my pocket, and his partner actually tried to reach into my wife's purse. It was the only place in Italy where we had that experience. Definitely use a money belt.

Good luck.
