I was chatting with an RCI guide after he ran through the required disclaimers about how much of the exchange fee I'd forfeit if I cancelled the exchange I'd just booked. I made a comment about how I'd also be losing trading power if I cancelled. He said no, that the generic FF deposits don't lose any trading power upon cancellation, only the online/visible weeks do. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that the generic weeks are placeholders of sorts with average trading power of all FF deposits.
Anyway, it's nice to know. Even though I've never had to cancel an exchange in 13 years of RCI membership (knock wood), since I plan 18 months to two years out, it does provide some peace of mind. Of course, there's still a cancellation penalty (losing the exchange fee)...
