Judge Rules HP Must Face Class Action Lawsuit Over Disabled Printers

The suit, filed earlier this year, argues that HP all-in-one printers stop all functions when ink levels reach some arbitrary point.

I have a decade plus old Laserjet pro 400 color laser which has been a workhorse. I hope it never dies because it was well worth the money. I paid more for it than a brother color laser that died after 1.5 year.

Sad. HP lost me when they moved over to the subscription ink model. They seem to have lost their way and I hope they can find their way back.

HP's subscription ink service is optional, so I don't worry about it. Just bought a new HP OfficeJet all-in-one last year for our FL house and works fine w/o the subscription. I currently use a HP OfficeJet in our CO house and it has been going strong for 8+years now. I think they still make good products, but it is best to stay away from the lowest-end (i.e., cheapest) models as they use the tiny ink cartridges that end up costing much more on a cost per page basis. It is better to spend a bit more upfront, then the cost per page is much better, plus you can use the XL cartridges which last much longer.

I have a Brother B&W laser printer, they are always sending popups about their subscription toners, but i don't use it enough. I have had zero issues with it over 3 years.

I have both a Brother laser printer which is great and a Hp all in one inkjet. For the price I’ve always considered the HP printers as throwaways! I’ve replaced the ink cartridges in it once with no fan fare.

We have an HP laser printer and have had it for at least 4 years. Love that printer. Works all of the time and haven't had to use the new toner refill we bought with it.

Our HP inkjet all-in-one was working just fine, but we got tired of paying $$$ for the XL cartridges. The printer was long out of warranty, so we tried to save a little money by buying refilled HP cartridges, but the printer refused to acknowledge they existed when we installed them, and that was the last straw. We bought a Canon GX-7021 that uses the tanks and are very happy with it. The ink level has hardly dropped in the months we’ve had it, and photos actually look better (more accurate color shading) than when printed on the HP. We’re glad we made the switch.
